Dimension X - Sci-fi Radio Show

Strange that so little good science fiction came out of radio; they seem ideally compatible, both relying heavily on imagination. Some fine isolated science fiction stories were developed on the great anthology shows, Suspense and Escape. But until the premiere of Dimension X -- a full two decades after network radio was established -- there were no major science fiction series of broad appeal to adults. This show dramatized the work of such young writers as Ray Bradbury, Robert (Psycho) Bloch, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Kurt Vonnegut. In-house script writer was Ernest Kinoy, who adapted the master works and contributed occasional storied of his own.

Dimension X was a very effective demonstration of what could be done with science fiction on the air. It came so late that nobody cared, but some of the stories stand as classics of the medium. Bradbury's "Mars Is Heaven" is as gripping today as when first heard. His "Martian Chronicles" was one of the series' most impressive offerings.

Vintage radio is great but the app continually crashes. While limited to just one series, this app functions well...and the stories are terrific....many by now famous sci-fi writers.

Love it

I love old time radio. Old time radio got me thru college. I would stay up all night listening to tapes that I borrowed from the library. I like the scifi and the horror stories the best. I love the new UI. THANKS GUYS!

I am a Sci-Fi junkie and love being able to listen to these stories when I want . I listen to Radio Classics on Sirius/XM that also plays Dimension X (plus X minus one). It's a nice collection and the app is easy to use. I recommend this app!

Worth your time

I have downloaded several of these programs and I have been exceedingly pleased with all the programming. They have several programs from old-time radio and I enjoy each and everyone of them. I have corresponded with the programmer and have found them to be honorable folks and willing to listen to questions as well as suggestions on programming. Definitely worth your time to download and especially to listen to. It is great when you are working and need to be busy with another task. It makes the day go fast!

I really enjoy these stories.

Do you like Ray Bradbury? He wrote several of the episodes. His was the only author I recognized, but all the stories are good. The episodes are exactly what we would have heard on the radio, including commercials and interruptions for live announcements about the Korean War. There is a timer so you can listen as long as you want. The sound quality is good. I am so happy I stumbled upon the Dragnet series because that's how I found out about Dimension X. Both apps are excellent and both direct you to more apps. Please keep these old radio stories coming!
