"Proposed merge" contacts were not what was actually created. At least I had a backup.

Sweeeeeet! I had 2, 3, sometimes 4 copies of all my contacts and a bunch of junk imported from social media. $4 and 10 minutes of merging and deleting and I’m back to normal!! 710 contacts down to 191. Ahhhhh.
