E-version is Great

PicklesJ

I have always enjoyed Cycling Plus but was a bit piqued about not being able to get the paper version until a month late at the local book store. Getting the e-version puts it at my fingertips right away and keeps it close to review old editions. Saves a lot of space and paper, too!

Top Class Magazine

Yorkshire Runner

Love this magazine! Perfect for road bike cyclists. Much better than Bicycling magazine. Well worth the price and saves me from having to go to WH Smith's every month.

OK, but needs work

Radsport

Overall, an okay app. It does, on occasion, crash when I open it. After restarting, it seems stable. It is, at times, a nuisance to use. For instance, to see the menu to return to the issues listing, you tap near the top of the page. When it's the cover, there are so many links on it that it often jumps to that link instead. Also, there's no quick link to the table of contents, that I know of. That's annoying. I instead have to swipe multiple times through the page listing at the bottom. First, it won't download issues in the background nor download multiple issues simultaneously. When downloading, I have to either begin reading the portion already downloaded and allow it to continue downloading or set the iPad down and come back later to check if complete so long as the iPad screen doesn't go to sleep. Only then can I download or update another and continue the same process. Furthermore , the download status often doesn't display so I never know if it downloaded. Extremely annoying. Next, after issues are downloaded, the app won’t allow reading of any of them without an Internet connection. Also, even though I'm a paid subscriber, there's almost always a banner at the top wanting me to subscribe again to CP or another magazine. This banner cannot be closed. Next, issues needing updates don't always indicate such until you try to read them. Lastly. I only want to see my issues, not every one available. Yes, there's a menu selection for that but I have to reselect it every time I access the app. This choice should become the default. As far as a reading tool, it needs work. If I read an article or ad that has a web link or a term I want to web search, I can't highlight and copy then paste in a browser. No, I have to type it in my browser and hope I have it right, a real pain when it's a long term. Hey, CP, it's the 21st century! Things digital are supposed to be convenient! This app is more a venue to sell me more stuff rather than allow me to just read my magazines. Shame on you Cycling Plus. You're an excellent magazine but it's being tarnished by over zealous marketers and paranoid publishers. Please bring your publication back into the folds of iBooks.
