The application claims to be based on the work of Professor Geert Hofstede, who says on his website: "These cultural differences describe averages or tendencies and not characteristics of individuals. A Japanese person for example can have a very low 'uncertainty avoidance' compared to a Filipino even though their 'national' cultures point strongly in a different direction. Consequently, a country's scores should not be interpreted as deterministic." ..as such, "managing people" or "dealing with you boss" is not an appropriate use of these statistics and this application. Maybe if you were creating marketing materials for a particular country this could be useful, but using cultural stereotypes for guidance on an individual to individual level is completely inappropriate.

The tool provides some great insight into different nationalities. It's fun playing with it! I upgraded to the full version! It's definitely worth it!
Great App, misunderstood by some

This App is really great. Those who think that this describes ALL people in a culture group don't understand the nature of culture or cultural distributions among a society. This App shows the median cultural preferences of a society in accordance with the five cultural dimensions of Hofstede. But just because a majority of the people in a society prefer one or the other cultural behavior, that doesn't mean that ALL people in that society have the same cultural preference. To think that is called "Cultural Stereotyping" and violates Logic. For, example: Some Americans talk loudly. John is an American. Therefore, John talks loudly. Wrong.
Very Valuable Tool

I have downloaded and subsequently deleted many iphone apps but this one is a keeper. As a frequent international business traveler, I find it very helpful to learn something about the culture of the people I am about to meet. To test the app, I have checked a few countries I am familiar with and find the results very accurate. Of course it is impossible to classify every individual but there are always characteristics that are shared by most people of a culture. I highly recommend this app to any international business traveler as well as to those merely interested in other cultures.

Having worked in several countries, and having visited numerous, I can't believe how accurate this app is. Would be a great tool for teaching adolescents and adults about international mindedness. $24 for the full version with not too much added, I am not sure. I would pay $.99 but I don't think any more when you can basically do comparisons on your own with screenshots and filling the blanks for how to do business in certain countries.
