dev needs to read crash logs and fix threading

All versions of the PocketPrep apps display the same problems. Frequent hangs/freezes, crashes, and lost data. Reading the device/app logs (by connecting device to Xcode) shows most of the problems are due to poor thread management. Long activities on the main thread being system halted after timeout is exceeded, or threads trying to dispatch work to themselves. This is sloppy coding. And, it’s obvious they reuse the same code across all of their apps. If I put my device in airplane mode, these apps do behave better... further confirming most of the freeze/crash occurrences are within the thread management of network calls and SQLite data updates (which is clearly indicated in the crash logs). I contacted PocketPrep directly about data loss from app crashes, provided details, got an automated reply, followed by absolutely no response from them. As much as I like the idea of these apps and the progress tracking features, it’s nearly addictive when it works, the reality is these apps aren’t stable and the metrics data is gibberish. In hindsight I should have spent the money purchasing additional books and avoided these apps like the plague that they are.

I recommend this app for anyone trying to prepare for their CompTIA A+ exam. This was recommended by Professor Messer and this is a wonderful app. I like how you can customize your practice exams to strengthen an area you want work on specially. This app shows you what areas you need to work on. Hope you all pass your exams!

Great app, but...

I really like the structure of this app. You can flag questions, it gives explanations, and it keeps track of your progress. It’s a great app when it works. Most of the time it locks up. I get heavy lag and frustration when I’m trying to take exams. Almost every time I open the app it wants to delay every time I tap anything. I paid for the full version, which is why I am frustrated. I have reinstalled this app several times. I follow the steps suggested by the support team, but it still does the same thing almost every time. I would love to give this 5 starts, because it would be an excellent tool for learning if it worked properly. The way it is, I often want to throw my phone against the wall and stomp on it until it is pulverized out of aggravation. Please developers, fix these issues. This app has SOOOO much potential. Thank you.

I’ve been using this app for over a year now and I love it. The only complaint I really have is it’s a little slow when it comes to selecting certain things within the app (ie. if you try to go to settings, it “freezes” up real bad). Other than that, great app.

I paid for ultimate package. I’ve been using this app for while but I’m getting the same questions way too often. Also it tries to load a new questions each time I take a now practice exam. I expected better than this.

I paid for the full subscription and although at first I felt satisfied with the product, I later encountered an inundated waves of lag when trying to take the test. It’s disruptive and makes me regret purchasing the full suite..it’s just unacceptable for the price point. On the other hand, the practice questions do help..so it’s a very confusing conundrum about how I should overall feel..3 stars for now.. fix the issues devs..

App is not working properly

The app keeps repeating questions but it counts them as if they were new, support tells you your app version is not up to date even when it is and is slow to respond. I just want to be done with this app but I’m waiting on the “bug issue” to be resolved. Their words, not mine. Also one of their updates says they fixed the lag in the exam readiness section, but it is still very laggy for me.

This is the only material I paid for to help me study and pass my exams. While it does have some non-relevant questions, it’s good for drilling in the most important ones. I’ve noticed that it will begin to lag once you’ve taken 5+ practice tests because it has to load them all every time. It will start to crash at 10+ tests. I don’t see it ever being fixed so keep that in mind if you don’t want to reset your questionnaire often.

I recently took the A+ 900 series tests and passed both. While I was going to school I used this app along with some online resources and the CompTia book. I absolutely love these questions they have definitions that help you understand what is being asked. Also the ease of being able to just use it anywhere is convenient! You definitely want to use this app.
