These games are often known as Cryptograms
Choose a category and the game will select six words or phrases to play with.
It will then generate a substitution cipher and encipher the words to make them unreadable. It's up to you to decipher them!
We will be adding new categories over time, send any comments or suggestions to [email protected]!
This app could definitely be improved upon. There are only a few categories to play with (you can unlock a few more if you pay), the design is very bland, and it could use a high scores section. I do like that you can pick how many letters are already solved when you start. Also there no ads, and each item you decipher has a link to its wikipedia page at the end if you want to learn about it, which is a nice touch.
Pretty good app for beginners wanting to explore cryptograms and ciphers. Excellent way to learn basic letter substitution encoding and simple ciphers. Only major problem is the limited number of ciphers, they really need to add more or add a pro version with additional ciphers for a nominal fee.
I agree that this is a good beginner's game. However, in a real cryptogram the letter on the board should never be equal to the answer letter. I just did one of the free puzzles and two of the puzzle letters were equal to the answer letters!
