ChordFlow

ChordFlow is a songwriting sketchpad that will help you create amazing chord progressions and melodies for your songs fast and easily.
Category Price Seller Device
Music $9.99 Dmitry Klochkov iPhone, iPad, iPod

HOW TO USE IT?

1. Create a chord progression.
2. Draw an arpeggio – the rhythmic and voice pattern for your chords.
3. Compose a melody.
4. Build a complete song adding more section.
5. Save your song, share or export to your favourite DAW as a MIDI file.

CHORD PROGRESSION
- Create chord progression of any length using intuitive chord selector providing a huge choice of chords.
- Move chords around within chord progression using drag and drop gestures.
- Add new chords at the end of the progression or in the middle.
- Make quantized jumps between chords while playing.

ARPEGGIO
- Specify the length and rate of the arpeggio grid. Length defines the number of steps in the sequence and rate define the speed at which the sequence is played.
- Add up to 4 tracks to your arpeggio grid. Each track has it’s color, octave and number of parallel voices.
To edit a track you select it with the track selection button, and then choose the required tool.
- Draw complex curves spanning several rows and columns of the arpeggio grid with just one move with Dots tool
- Draw long horizontal lines with Line tool
- Move entire track along the grid using the move tool
- Clear a region of the selected track with the eraser tool
- Remove the selected track entirely using the trash button
- Use undo/redo buttons to go back and forth in the edits history.
- Set Loop region to repeatedly play only the selected section of your arpeggio.

MELODY
- Create up to 4 melody tracks.
- Melodies are edited in their own grid, which also has length and rate params as the arpeggio grid.
- Select the root note and the scale for the melody grid. You can also show and hide non-scale notes using the “Chromatic” switch.
- Melody grid features the same collection of drawing tool as the arpeggio grid does.
- While drawing your melody you will see which chords correspond to the specific steps and also which notes of the grid match the notes of the chords.
- You can also set a loop region as in the arpeggio grid view.
- Undo/Redo aslo works the same way as in arpeggio grid.

SONG STRUCTURE
- A song can contain unlimited number of sections
- Each section has its own chord progression, arpeggio and melody parts
- Add, remove, reorder, rename and clone sections
- Make quantized or immediate jumps between sections while playing.
- Set a song loop mode. Loop one section. Loop entire song. Or play whole song once.

CONNECTIVITY
- Control any CoreMIDI compatible app
- Control desktop synths through USB or Wi-Fi
- Control hardware synths
- Specify MIDI destination and channel for each track
- Use ChordFlow as MIDI or Audio sender in Audiobus (http://audiob.us/)

INTERNAL SOUNDS
ChordFlow has one built-in synth sound so you can start quickly. But for better results you should use ChordFlow as a MIDI controller with other synth apps. There are plenty of them in the App Store, paid and free. To name a few: GarageBand, Korg Gadget, Korg iM1, Animoog, SampleTank. You can also send MIDI to desktop synth apps like Ableton Live, Logic, Kontakt, etc.

SUPPORT / FEEDBACK
ChordFlow is not developed by a big company. There is only one of me. And I am very interested in making my apps useful and bug-free. So please contact me directly if you have bug reports, suggestions, questions, or just want to say something cool :)

Chords won’t sound
annaeneg1234

Hello, the melody and arpeggios work but the chords are aren’t sounding. Could you help me with this please?

I’d love to be able to load it in AUM
sveinbjornp

- since all the midi backdoor plugging can get confusing. It’s the makings of a good sequencer core, for certain work, but all the menu work makes it… less fun, and harder to move the things you’ve composed into production. At least for me.

Buggy. Sound stops working.
Hanoveur

The sound consistently stops working...it gets staticky and fades. General audio on my iPad starts becoming delayed in other apps and slowly clears up. Can’t really work with it long enough to be any use.

Melodic Fail!
Orbanahuckorytree2126766

This app has great potential, but utterly fails to deliver on its basic promise. The app allows you to pre-define chords, be it a major, minor, dominant etc. then, in the arpeggio (chord) section of the app, it will automatically create chords and the inversions, so you can just tap in a two, three, four, five or six voice chord, and it will play the proper notes of that chord and allow you to quickly Invert them. However, in the melodic section, the thirds and sevenths do not adjust to sharp or flat notes! Are you kidding me! So if you create a chord in the melodic section, putting a note in the third and seventh slot, as the chords progress through your predefined major to minor pattern, the thirds and sevenths do not change to flat despite your predefining those chords as major or minor. That means your chord section is going to be out of tune with your melodic section by a half step. Duh! You will have a minor chord playing in the chord section and a major chord or melody playing in the melody section. How retarded is that! TOTAL WASTE IF MONEY !!! Rip off!!! Don’t buy this app. Who are the music theory morons that gave this app a five star rating that cannot recognize a dissonant interval if it punched them in the ear?! Who are these dim wits on YouTube that give “sound test bedroom tutorials” on the use of this app, but did not catch this obvious and glaring error! Don’t trust anyone with an affiliate link in the description panel on their YouTube channel.

A fun tool for sketching that needs a few features
Myrkskog

This plus any daw or app like Korg gadget can lay the foundation for some amazingly quick and professional beats. I mainly use this as a MIDI out tool. The in app sounds are decent, just not what I want to use. Waiting on some updates like BPM swing.

Purely AWSOMENESS
axlegaming

One of the best app for musicians

How do I use this?
Salll

I can’t figure it out. Is there a manual? Chords don’t make sounds. Seems to do a lot but too hard to figure out.

No sound output
Sinova716

Absolute waste of money. How can I get a refund? There is NO sound output.

Compatibility
Furefit

Loved the app, I just wish it was compatible with Mac.

OMG
Miss-Paced

I have so many melodies in my head and was getting frustrated because GarageBand and every other virtual instrument app is so limited .... it made me wish there was a way i could just DRAW my music - and thats what let me to this app. as i havent studied music since literally grade school, i have forgotten all about notes and chords, so Im a long ways from being able to play any kind of instrument ... this app is truly a gift to the universe, I am so impressed just after seeing a YouTube video, that I immediately bought the app and came here to write this review, because im sure once I get started, I will lose myself in the music. Thank you!!! I will post an updated review after i am done creating my next masterpiece :P
