Best Value for Audiobooks

Bullittgal

I love Chirp! The app is reliable. It remembers my place if I switch between books before finishing one. The deals are unmatched that I have seen by any other audiobook source. If you want audio for the price of an ebook or less, give Chirp a try. The selection continues to get better all the time. I prefer Chirp over Audible, but I still use both. Only drawback is the proprietary format meaning you can’t listen to other books not purchased from Chirp. Same with Audible, but at least the books are still yours to keep with both. Just wish I could get down to only one or two apps for all my audio needs. If I could side load my mp3 books I’d give 5 stars.

My favorite way to listen to books

I absolutely love Chirp. I love to listen to audiobooks, but at MY pace. I don’t want to be in a subscription plan. Chirp lets you go to their website, listen to samples of the readers, decide which audiobook you want to buy and then it automatically downloads to the app. The app is awesome. Just so easy to use. I’ve been using them probably for a couple of years. Am listening to “Moonstone” right now. Just downloaded “Washington Square” for a book club. Oh, that reminds me, you can easily see the length of the audiobook as you’re comparing versions. This is a fast way to tell when someone has abridged a version without reading all of the description details.

I love Chirp Books, but the app could use some improvement

This review is for the app, not the website. I would have given the website 5 stars. I buy a LOT of audiobooks from Chirp. They are a great value. The app itself, though, could use some improvement. For one thing, I want to be able to shop for and purchase audiobooks within the app. Instead, the app is only a library of your purchases, and where you have to go to listen to your purchased audiobooks. Secondly, on my iPhone (iOS 15.0.2), I can ??? the app with the playback controls on my Lock Screen, but the controls are not functional. I can’t rewind, pause, etc. When I’m using my native Podcasts app, the controls are fully functional on the Lock Screen.

The quality of the reading is comparable to Audible and I prefer not having a monthly fee. Works for me!

Very well written

This story really gives you a glimpse into the lives of these courageous and amazing women who helped future generations by fighting for justice and then allowing themselves to be poked, prodded and then autopsied after death so we could have a better understanding of the real effects of radium poisoning.

Lost!

I am pretty savvy with these sites and apps but after trying every possible solution I end up in the same place. Lost!

Disappointed

So. I bought a $22 book as a gift for Christmas from Chirp. The only gift I gave my boyfriend for Christmas. And the last 17 minutes of every chapter was missing. No response from anyone after attempting to get some help. Feel like I threw money away. Won’t be getting anything else from them. UPDATE: my money was returned for the book that didn’t work, but I still deleted the app. Took a hit, on another book, but having a missing 17 minutes per chapter stung.

The Old Man

Once I began listening, the story was so interesting to me & the voices so captivating that I wanted to continue unabated to see what was going to happen next. Excellent plot which carried thru the entire novel until the very satisfying completion. I immensely enjoyed this audio book.

YA but sorta OK

Story line was interesting and it did hold my attention however the narrator was actually not very good but he could have been young and hopefully will get better.
