Software works incredibly well. I used the stand alone app for a long time before setting up the dvr. Both are great!

This is one of my favorite apps in my Apple TV. They keep improving it watch year. Customer support is top notch, always getting back to me via email within one hour. Worth every penny.

I ended up paying the $24.99 for the Apple TV version and I have zero regrets at all. For a little over $100 you can purchase this and an HDHomeRun device and be subscription free. The phone app is great, but I highly recommend downloading the Apple TV version of you have one.
Does better than the official HDHomeRun app

Picture quality is better and quicker also as well as the dvr works better than the hdhomerun dvr too
