Camel Up

Witness the craziest camel race of all time, as things really go topsy-turvy when camels stack up and entire pyramids turn upside down. As members of Egyptian high society, you gather in the desert with one simple goal: to gain the most money by backing the right camel to win a leg or even the entire race. However, in this race, it’s not just the lucky ones who can beat the odds. Reading the dynamics of the race and having a good sense of timing is just as important when it comes to backing the right camels and taking the victory.

Nice app, but not been updated even after they said they would to other reviews..... that’s a real shame.... still no tutorial also

Tutorial?
manydills

There are comments more than a year old saying they would fix the tutorial, and it is still not present in any usable form. I’m sure they’ll thank me for the feedback and promise a future update. Not impressed.

Mechanically okay but visually bad

Why is everything so spread out? Why is the tutorial so broken? Embarrassing!

Don't buy this yet

If you've never played Camel Up, DO NOT get this app, at least until they've updated it a few times past 1.0.0. It has no tutorial, some things are poorly explained on the rules page, and some things are just not explained in the rules at all. If you already know what you're doing, then it may be fun, but I can't speak to that. Simply put: This was released without publicity, because it's not ready for release yet.

Almost there, but not yet

Rule book is a little vague, but seems concise. I steady knew how to play, so take that for what it is. AI needs to be a little more AI and a little less Precognitive. On Pro level, the AI will select the winner of the leg after the first roll... Every time. I haven't done better than last place every single time I've played against any number of pro AI. And that's with 40 or more points sometimes.

Camel Up is fun...when it works. It hangs frequently though, so I can only finish about 50% of the games I start. Graphics are nice and the implementation is good when it works. A tutorial or at least a comprehensive explanation of the rules would be welcome as well (but I managed to figure most things out just by playing). I'll update my review once they make this more robust and finish the game. For now, I feel like a beta tester.

Great rendition

I love the board game and the app version is a great rendition. If you already know hoe to play and love this game, it is definitely worth the $. I have not had any issues with crashing on my iPhone 6+ nor my IPad Mini 4. Love it. Great Job Outline Development.

Fun, but needs refining

I have this board game and my wife and I enjoy it quite a bit. So, I couldn't resist purchasing the IOS version when I discovered it in the App Store today. After playing with it for a couple of rounds, I quickly formed an opinion that it needs some work but is essentially a good rendition of the board game. First, the instructions on how to play the game are not complete. They do not fully explain all the details of the game. Mainly, the placement of the tiles. Next, the tutorial does nothing to teach you how to play the game. Granted, I didn't need the tutorial but I had to see how they teach new players. Now, the good parts. The graphics and sounds are well done and the game seems to be fully represented on the screen. It plays very well and the AI appears to be balanced. I look forward to further refinements in the game and hope that they will enhance the instructions and tutorial. Overall, it is a faithful reproduction of the board game. New players will be confused at first but should quickly pick up on the mechanics of the game. You should be able to find the full rule book on the Internet if you need more information on how to play.

Great Port... But needs Online Multiplayer
rhetscholar42

I really like the app. It's a great port of the physical game, looks nice, and is functional. However, there is no online multiplayer. The app would benefit greatly from a realtime and turn based multiplayer mode. Maybe something we'll see in an update?

Okay, but incomplete per the rules

The board game rules state players take a Pyramid tile when they choose to roll a die (moving a camel.) 1 pyramid tile = 1 point in Leg Scoring. Yet this iPad app gives no points at all for rolling a die. This changes the scoring system, and significantly alters player strategy. It's not the same game! Also, a few bugs / quirks, such as Overall Winner & Overall Loser bets being represented in such a way that you can't tell which camel was used for which bet. Hopefully these things will be fixed in a future update. Otherwise, lots of fun!
