The cloud section takes techniques common in granular synthesis and brings them to the realm of midi notes. It adds additional notes to the ones you are playing. This can be a simple rhythmic accompaniment or it can bring new textures from your synths by generating a cloud of tiny notes almost entering the realms of black midi.
The note sections gives a fully automatable/midi controllable note quantiser with a range of scales, a transposer and the ability to constrain to simple chords as well
The tempo section allows the addition of swing and accents to incoming midi notes as well as providing a probability gate
Cality is great for bringing life to simple midi loops or patterns or for taking you deep into creative realms.
Just digging in, but I can already so much potential for different use cases. Generative music isn’t my thing but this adds a lot of variance to whatever you feed it. It’s generative-esque in that regard and it’s really exciting to be able to spruce up some simple sequences. Used creatively it can lead to some really cool sounds and textures as well!
When paired with Atom or another source of incoming midi, Cality offers a variety of control options that achieve natural and dynamic accompaniment instead of randomness.
Wow, after only playing around for a short time, it’s clear that there is a lot of fun to be had with this app. Loving the granular concept as it applies to MIDI, and looking forward to ways in which it can interact with other apps within AUM. Apps like this keep me very excited about working in a modular way on the iPad. Great work with Cality!
Since the developer does not provide means for support through their website, I must use this platform to report bugs. *Cubasis 2 freezes when trying to freeze tracks loaded with Cality as a MIDI AU. *when loaded as a midi effects unit in Cubasis 2, the rec to track button does not stay on and interferes with recording with other midi effects in the chain. *Cality should not by default send midi thru to its output from its input, rather, it should only output the processed midi so we can capture its output in midi. For example, I don’t want to midi record the entire Rozeta Rhythm pattern, only what Cality does with it, instead, it passes what Rhythm sends, which is useless.
Only just purchased the app after much deliberation, and I love it. The knob update helped me make my decision as well. Send a simple midi pattern into Cality and with some minor tweaking you can render some great sounding patterns off a couple notes. It’s easy to use, and can provide so many different musical results. I love manipulating the midi and seeing what comes out. Great App. Cheers to the developer.
