Worst email application to come out of Silicon Valley

amrandhawa

This is terrible - MobileIron for iPhone was much more efficient. “Boxer Better email” app is terrible programming - it’s so bad they had to market it as “better”. Email threads are broken up in to 3 or 4 places, whereas apple mail made it one thread.

Notifications......not. ?

wlodge_man

So I too am forced to use this app for Corp emails and it does NOT notify me when new emails come in! So when I’m on call, I have to leave the app open and keep checking my phone. The other annoying “feature” is that it complains that I force close the app, “which may cause notification issues”....lol. I close this app just like any other on my iPhone. I’ve rebooted the phone, deleted and installed the app with no improvement. Surely these items can be fixed?

Good overall, but updates very slowly

Francis Marto

Boxer is very very useful overall. It is far better than the previous tool. It is However cumbersome to initially load, given the multiple apps. A major concern however is that it updates very slowly If I have not used it on my phone for a couple of days, it can take up to a half an hour to catch up. This is a significant deficit. It seems to be isolated to mail and fortunately not the calendar. My other email apps don’t do this -, I’m not sure why Boxer take so long.

Slow and not reliable

Updated: An absolute dumpster fire of an app. Deleting mine now.

The most recent update to this app is a real step back. I can’t even “slide-to-delete” a message without the application hanging. That, on top of the fact that all of the other issues that I enumerated before are still there, as well as new ones like the unread count never being accurate. So I have no idea what “bug fixes and improvements” are really going into this app. I’m done. I love the support for Gmail labels, but it’s not worth the absolute frustration Boxer provides. Good: Great integration of mail, calendar, and contacts. Support for all the major email providers. A real, chronological inbox display. Support for Gmail labels. Bad: Execution. The unread count on the icon does not update properly. I get Boxer notifications for new email, but the emails don't show up until I kill/restart the app (new in this version). No notifications for calendar events. Threaded email view sometimes works, sometimes no. Ever since Google removed the standard Inbox view from their mobile app, I have been looking for the right replacement to manage all my Gmail accounts. I've been through the other Google apps, as well as Spark, but Boxer comes as close as I've found to what I'm looking for. First and foremost, it has a good ol' chronological Inbox view. Not Important and Unread, or someone else's interpretation of what I should see, but a real Inbox view. The integration with calendar and contacts is nice as well -- a one-stop-shop for mail, contacts, and calendars. The customizable slide actions, and the catch-all Actions option make email management quick and convenient. There's a lot to love here. Unfortunately, the actual execution is poor. I have regularly had issues where the unread count on the icon won't update after I read/delete/archive email unless I pull-to-refresh from my combined Inbox -- sometimes more than once. There are instances where I receive a notification from Boxer that I have a new message, but the message doesn't show up until I pull-to-refresh. With the 29 June update, I sometimes have to kill and restart the app before new messages show up. And while Boxer is set to notify me of Calendar events, I have NEVER seen a Calendar notification from Boxer. The vision is good, but the experience needs work.

Limitations in the name of “Security”.

bwestmoreland

No Apple Watch integration, siri can no longer read my calendar, and calendar notifications fail to fire reliably. The usefulness of mobile computing is to keep you informed while on the go, but this app makes for staring at your phone instead of being a useful companion. The sales pitch is that your data is now more secure. I don’t buy that for a second. Please stop selling an inferior solution based on FUD.

Excellent business email solution

This is great from a security standpoint. If you want to kill a mailbox for whatever reason, the users’ phones stay intact. You just wipe the Boxer data only without damaging a user phone. So cool!
