With BMW Connected, BMW drivers can safely and easily access general and vehicle-related functions during, before and after making a journey with their BMW. This requires a BMW vehicle equipped with the special feature 'Apps' or 'ConnectedDrive Services' (varies according to model and market). For compatible smartphones, see www.bmw.com/bluetooth.

To use a BMW Connected app in your BMW, connect the smartphone to the car using either the snap-in adapter or the USB connection in the centre console, and run the connection assistant, which you will find in the Connected Drive menu.

Current functionality:

*** Note: Due to a change in iOS 7, switching between apps using the iDrive system is currently limited. ***

Twitter

Displays the latest status messages, personal favourites, and community trends in your car. Moreover, pre-defined texts which are able to access current vehicle information can be sent during the journey.

Web radio

Receive innumerable radio stations in your BMW through your iPhone. Use search functions to select genre, country and favourite stations.

Calendar

Display calendar entries in your car and call meeting-participants whenever you need to. Appointment details can be read out through the audio system. Addresses stored in calendar entries can be exported into the optional navigation system as destinations.

Wiki local

The ideal travel companion. Discover interesting Wikipedia articles relevant to the sights and localities in your destination region.

News

Access the latest news at any time from your RSS news feeds.

ECO PRO analyser
Rates your driving style and gives you advice as to how to drive even more efficiently. It only works in automobiles fitted with the latest generation of the navigation system Professional (depending on series, from 7/2012) and the navigation system Business (depending on series, from 11/2013). What is more, the ECO PRO Analyser is not supported by the following models: all BMW M and BMW i models, and BMW models without the ECO PRO mode.

Last mile navigation

Transfers your navigation destination and the position data of your car to your smartphone and continues your navigation even after you have left the vehicle. Makes it easy to find your car when returning to it at your destination.

The application is displayed in the car in the language configured for the vehicle.

An Internet connection is required. This can incur costs (for example due to roaming) in accordance with the contract concluded between the customer and the network operator. Please observe national requirements and conditions specific to the country you are in.

Restricted functionality is possible in the event of insufficient data transfer speed and with volume-based bandwidth restrictions of the network operator. Moreover, it is possible that selected functions based on services supplied by third-party providers will not be available at all times or may be subject to change. The specific conditions of these providers must be observed.

For the aforementioned reasons, BMW is unable to warranty unrestricted compatibility and functionality of your mobile device in combination with the vehicle interface.

Recent update added more bugs than it fixed

Does anyone even test this app with BMW media cradle for iPhone? In version 2.4, it would take couple of minutes for the menu to show. Latest 2.5 version does not work in the background (despite the update states it does). Here is current 2.5 behaviour, connect iPhone to cradle, go to connected drive, click additional apps - you get a message BMW connected app must be running; open compartment, click the phone start button, click BMW Connected app or remove the phone from cradle, start the app, then connect again. Not only this is unsafe when driving, but it is a hassle dealing with this issue. And talking about additional apps, can you add some useful apps like Waze instead of apps nobody has heard of like EnLighten. Desperately needs bug fixing or outsource it (as other reviewer below mentioned).

It is an improvement

One thing that BMW might forgot to mention was that in order for the updated app to work, the car needs to have the software updated as well. I also downloaded the new app with excitement that it will work with the app running in the background and was disappointed when it didn't. I checked and there is actually a software update for the car as well. Once I updated the car software, things started to work beautifully (i.e., I can listen to pandora in my car while the app is running in the background, using USB connection). So it does work but the updates need to happen on both the phone and the car. And when connecting through bluetooth, the artwork will change with the song as well now. ?

Not working. You guys need to improve lot of things.

An Amazingly low end app from a company that prides itself on high end technology. This app requires a hard wired connection to the car. It also requires some time before the car recognizes that the phone and app are available through the usb cable.

Doesnt work at all

It wont work with my 2015 328i and iphone6 plus.

Not worth the hassle of using this

Needs Bluetooth plz

Please add Bluetooth integration with the car it's faster and handy . I agree with all the bad reviews , but the question is , is the company read them ? I don't see any improvement.

Hard to believe it's this bad

In 2015 what do I need with an app I need to manually update with a thumb drive in my car just so I can manually synch up the open app every time I turn on the car. And once you go through all that? It doesn't actually do anything. I streamed pandora through my phone one time- which I could do without the app- but then the next time I turned on my car my phone wouldn't work until I did a hard restart. The only good thing I can say is that at least it operates as designed. It's actually supposed to be this lame.

I like the app, but . . . . UPDATED

First obvious issue is the separation of Pandora from BMW Connected. I'm sure there's a good reason for this, but it escapes me. This should be fixed, with Pandora integrated into the BMW app. I love the web radio. Wish I hadn't bought the Sirius receiver. Look forward to new functions, although the iDrive already has so many, I wonder if I really want them. I guess email integration is the next obvious step (at least for me). UPDATE (AUG 2015) This app has not evolved. It now will start playing web radio randomly. In my office, at home, eating lunch. Have to purposely kill the app to ensure it doesn't start jamming on its own. BMW, please give this app to a qualified mechanic who can fix.
