Cannot get QR reader to work
Ellenerah

And so what is the sense if my bird a day calendar does not work?

Doesn’t actually work
Sc83

I scanned the codes for the bird calls and it would pull up the bird songs. But when you press play on a particular sound or song it doesn’t actually make any sound. I made sure my volume was all the way up. I’m not connected to Bluetooth so I know the sound is not going through some other speaker. It’s just not working.

Can’t find calendar connection

I was given the calendar for Christmas and eagerly downloaded this app. I have not found a way to use it with the calendar and wonder if there really is a link.

Very nice app—works with Bird a Day calendar & several books by Cornell Labs
Just another iPhone addict

Other reviewers have apparently had problems hearing the audio on this app, but I don’t think the problems are inherent in the app, since it worked just fine for me, and I’m not necessarily the most tech-savvy person out there! I just followed the instructions on my Bird a Day calendar from Cornell Labs and, after downloading the app and selecting the birdsong section at the top of the menu, scanned the QR code on the back of the calendar page—since I practically never scan QR codes, this took a few seconds to get the hang of, but is not intrinsically difficult, you just have to point the phone’s camera at the QR code, as if you were taking a picture of it, making sure that the image of the QR code is centered in the middle of the screen, within the brackets—and pressed the button for the birdsong or bird call I wanted to hear and, after several seconds of waiting while the app downloaded the birdsong/birdcall, I then heard it. The way the app indicates the delay caused by downloading the audio file is a bit nonintuitive, hence the 4 stars rather than 5–the first time I used the app, I did indeed think it wasn’t working, during those first few seconds before I finally heard the song—but it does actually work, on my iPhone at least (a rather old one, frankly). To those who’ve been having trouble with the app: I recommend that you check not only the sound on/off switch on your phone, to make sure it’s on, but also the volume controls—they’re a main cause of problems I have with the sound on apps, because I sometimes discover that I’ve at some point previously set them all the way down to zero (probably in response to a loud and intrusive ad or video that surprised me in something I was reading). So make sure they’re set all the way to full volume. If that doesn’t work, then contact App Support, which you can do very easily through the App Store—just search for the name of the app, then scroll down till you see the button for “App Support”. (No, I don’t work for Cornell Labs, I’m just frustrated to see all these reviews saying that the app doesn’t work when I have clear evidence that, on my iPhone at least, it does!)

Nice app once you figure it out
Radala

Bought the corresponding calendar for my other half and it took us about 30 minutes to troubleshoot. 1. Doesn't work with other QR readers, needs this app. 2. QR code scans when it is about 1/4 size of brackets. If it isn't scanning, hold it much farther back. 3. Phone must have sound on - not in vibrate mode. 4. Sound takes a bit to start, a couple seconds each in my experience. It is a nice feature with the calendar, but unfortunate that it is hard to get to work properly.

No sound plays

I have the same problem. The audio appears and when I push play it the bar scrolls but No Sound is heard. I hope this is fixable because I love the idea!

2018 Calendar QR scan The Sound is Fixed
YumYumYellow76

***Sound is now working and I am easily able to scan the QR code and then play the various calls for the bird on the 2018 Calendar. Love it. *** The app itself was quite intuitive. I was easily able to download, open the app, scan the QR on the back of the very first calendar day, the Northern Cardinal. Three sound bars popped up to allow me to listen to two songs and one call. I played all three, no sound from any of them. I checked my volume, I turned off blue tooth and restarted my phone. Still no sound. I am running the latest iOS on an iPhone 6 Plus. This rather defeats the purpose of why I bought the calendar to learn bird songs.

Audio works on my iPhone 6

I normally leave my phone in silent mode throughout the day because the vibrate is sufficient in nearly every case. Well apparently not here. After turning the phone off of silent mode the sound came out fine. Oh yeah, and the app is easy to use. It’s not flashy and I wish there was a search option, but that’s not why I have this app anyway. It works.

My son was excited for this book and to hear the birds. Not one of the qr codes would work.

Turn Silent Off
AllieLiddell

Really needs to either play when the phone is on silent like YouTube and Netflix do, or have a prominent message stating the app doesn’t work in silent mode. The former is preferable.
