Awful

Luckily, I tried this for free. I thought it would be great to have a fast paced 'game' to review characters I already know. Actually, I like the layout and the speed concept. BUT the problem is, the word list was clearly just computer generated. For example 我 means I or me in English. During the game, the first time you see it you only have a choice of I, so no problem. The second time you see it you have to choose between a few words, including I and me. Well, sometimes I chose I and was correct, other times I chose I and was wrong... But without context you would never know which one to choose, unless you were translating a sentence from Chinese to English. So anyway, nice layout, but a fail. If they really wanted to make this great: 1 - pronounce the target language word after selected 2 - option to change which language goes in the middle 3 - option to turn off the horrible applause 4 - have a real life human choose the word list and QA the game that actually speaks/reads/writes both languages fluently I don't recommend this, free or otherwise.

First of all, I'm not going to be as critical as the other reviews because this app really depends on how you approach it. Basically, all you do is VISUALLY identify Chinese characters. Nothing is pronounced. There are some context issues in which "I" in Chinese could be either "I" or "me" in English (which leads me to believe that the developer knows nothing of the Chinese language, after all this is rudimentary) but as long as you know this and select "I" you'll be fine. In the end, this is not for serious people, just those who'd like a playful and light learning experience, and above all, this is not worth $4.99 - barely a $1, but I'll be using it nonetheless (i.e., it's worth having for free, barely worth it at a $1, and definitely not worth it beyond $1). This app could easily be worth a dollar, however, if you could add your own Chinese characters and their definitions.

Useless!

Crashes at level 3-3. Re-installing didn't help either. iPad 3, iOS 7.04. Absolutely useless.
