Worth the roaming charges alone!

Wow in retrospect I would have definitely saved a boatload of roaming charges had I just used this app during my travels. Learn from my mistakes, glad a friend pointed this out for next time!

Best offline map app for Beijing

Tap2P Gamer

This is by far the best offline map app for Beijing. Highly recommended with must go places. Also includes the weather currency converter to Chinese yen etc. A complete software package all for free and nearby subways etc.

Strongly recommend

This app is the best offline map I have ever used. Without internet I am able to use phone as compass to point direction. Map has a lot of details. Very useful! Edited: love the new version! It now has more things and makes the city exploration even more fun!

Very impressive

Really liked this app. Helped me a lot when I visited Beijing. Comfortable to use and was to read. Nicely designed. A must have app for travel.

Saved my life love the update!!

Love the update! I used to travel with folding maps, until I fell in love with this app! Just like google maps but offline! Saved my life since it's impossible to find wifi in Beijing!

Underwhelming map guide

CaveatEmptor7

The map has no English labels for streets or other geographic landmarks. So unless it is one of a limited number of pre-selected tourist destinations, it will not be readily found on the offline map. For example, if you search Bird's Nest or Water Cube instead of Beijing National Aquatics Center, you're out of luck. If you search for the Chaoyang Theater (renown acrobatics troupe performance) or for restaurants, don't expect to find it here. If you want to map the directions between two places, again this will not give it to you. What you do get is 1) a nice taxi card display for the pre-selected destinations telling the taxicab driver in Chinese where you want to go; 2) a brief description again only of the pre-selected tourist destinations along with their nearest subway station; 3) weather that day, updated when on wifi; and 4) a currency converter, with updated conversion rates when on wifi.
