Minimal useful functions...

How about an UNDO option for when you mess up after an overdub recording on a track? And a basic QUANTIZE function would help tremendously to produce a simple beat, perfectly and quickly. A COPY option from one track to the next, so you can continue progressing your beat with new elements; since you apparently can’t play two tracks at the same time. As an experimental electronic hip hop musician, I find these are major flaws in the program design. I don’t know what the Pro version is like, but why continue using Beat Maker Go if it is missing basic music production tools?

It Will Surprise You!

When I first downloaded this app I didn’t have high expectations for it. Being a free app with free updates quite often, I figured I wouldn’t be using it much and only for basic sketching of ideas. I actually thought it would end up going to app hell by way of deleting it off my devices. My thought process was that any music making app that is free, that adds free updates often, has to be of the lowest quality and therefore not worthy of using up free space on my iPhone and iPad. Nobody is going to offer up high quality sounds and effects for free and if they do, they’re certainly not going to give their app much love, upkeep and maintenance. Only apps that cost money and charge for any new effects and sounds get that kind of attention. This is a valid thought as the App Store is full of worthless free music making apps that don’t appeal to any serious musician due to lack of quality sound and abilities to be taken seriously. I couldn’t have been more wrong when it comes to Beat Maker Go! The sounds are strong and fresh and the effects are decent enough to take seriously. Add that with the ability to record your performances and transport them to the DAWS that You probably have on your devices and you have an amazing instrument at your fingertips. I have added numerous BMG recordings to my songs that have been recorded with acoustic instruments and physical synthesizers as well as some excellent and legitimate soft synths and they sound not only amazing along side the other instruments used but have stood out as the stars of some of my songs. BMG gives you so many updates to play around with and use that I feel like I am getting away with something that’s not ethical! Is it perfect? Is there more I wish I could do with it? Sure, but for being a free app and new updates almost weekly being free as well, you would be hard pressed to find a better instrument than BMG in the App Store. This musician who lives and breathes to record heavy Industrial and dark heavy music will continue to be a champion of BMG and will preach its quality and generous sound bank to all who come across my path. If you doubt this review, try it for yourself and then go forth and testify!
