"completely awesome...Lucky Frame, keep this kind of stuff coming. " - Gamezebo

IGF-nominated Lucky Frame brings you their latest crazy musical game creation: Bad Hotel. An insane hybrid of tower defence and procedural music, with beautiful art and tons of bullets.

You are a budding entrepreneur, whose hotel is rather unfortunately located within the territory of Tarnation Tadstock, the Texas Tyrant. Your only defense against Tadstock’s army of seagulls, rats, yetis, and more is to build your hotel as quickly and intelligently as possible, using an array of increasingly sophisticated weapons.

The beautiful artwork, quirky storyline, and frantic gameplay all work seamlessly together with a generative music system, which creates original music depending on the player’s actions and decisions. The player becomes a composer, creating complex musical structures to defend their hotel. A vast variety of music can be generated, from delicate beach chillout to country
banjo techno.

Good idea, pretty, execution problems
Ross02

I never thought I'd complain about this in a tower defense game, but the controls are really imprecise. The difficulty curve is also kind of weird. And because the controls are so dodgy, I'm not sure if there's some deep strategy I'm missing when the levels (suddenly) get hard, or if it's all a matter of luck. Big problems, but fixable!

The Perfect Casual Game
FreshPie

There are plenty of music generation apps available for iOS, and they all share the same problem: they get boring quickly. Sure, you can make some pretty cool beats, but it only happens when you get lucky. The rest of the time is wasted. Bad Hotel provides you with a goal to accomplish while you generate music. It doesn't always sound great, by that's okay because you have a great tower defense game to play while you're waiting. The story is innovative (the antagonist both funds and destroys your hotels), and the combination of two app genres makes Bad Hotel the perfect casual game. My only complaint has been mentioned by others: the controls aren't fantastic. Sometimes, when I go to place a room next to the main hotel, it ends up far away in the dirt. However, that hasn't prevented me from thoroughly enjoying this game.

Great game terrible control
inorganik

It's seems like a lot of effort went into this game but it's incredibly frustrating to place rooms- its drag and drop but they don't go where you drag- they slide around wildly and most of the time you can't see them because they're under your finger. It leads to a bad gaming experience because you feel like you have no control. I wonder why they didn't just use a grid system...

awesome
My score

it so refreshing to see beautiful graphics and a fun game. only complaint: i hate that i cant drag rooms up and i have to go around the hotel not over. so very annoying. everything else is perfect

Bad Hotel is really Good

Great fun and can make good music as well. Pak Man has met Bach

Good with technical flaws
Miburui

I bought this game because of a glowing preview on kotaku, but overall I'm not impressed. The dynamic music system or whatever is nothing more than rhythmic pulses that don't exactly serenade. The biggest problem with the game is accuracy; placement of units is crucial in a tower defense game but this game has incredibly frustrating drag and drop accuracy problems. If I didn't feel like the game was working against me it might be really enjoyable.

Doesn't work on my phone
darkcitytheman

I snagged this app after reading the Kotaku review. Was excited to try it but it doesn't work on my iPhone 3GS. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix coming soon?

Horrible on IPad

This game totally s ucks... Can't think of one good thing to say about it...waste of money... Huge control issues...besides boring..

Great game
Awesome sauce/937

There could be a grid system but because of the control scheme I just took it as a challenge instead of bothering the developer and complaining like a child. The game is great. When you place a room every room has a different sound and together the rooms make a peaceful pulse while you're frantically rushing making split second decisions on what to do next. It really is a strategy game and deserves better reviews. One flaw doesn't make it a one or three star game. If you rate it appropriately, and ask politely, the developer will feel better about making or changing the controls in the update. Keep doing a good job lucky frame, don't let people stop you from what you do best, combine music, gameplay, and a fun storyline together to make a wonderful experience for the customer. P.S. -!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fun, needs work on controls

Others have gone into detail on the control issues. Consider waiting for a patch before purchasing. The procedural music aspect is wildly overrated.
