Backbeater allows drummers to monitor their tempo: either freestyle, or with a reference tempo. The Backbeater metronome can be set to your rhythm. It can discreetly tell you a tempo you tap out, and it can store lists of tempos, for when you're playing live.

Our tempo sensor mounts directly to your snare drum with existing hardware—it fits under one of the lugs that encircle your snare's rim.

Wow amazing

Just works

Innovative system here that works really well. I love the ability to change sensitivity for ghost notes and the leader board is a fun idea. Way to go, 5/5

I love this thing
dante roberson

Hello my name is Dante Roberson. I'm a touring, session and clinician. I use to use another product that was ok, but not as accurate as the Back Beater. I love this thing so much, I did a video for the product, and wasn't asked to. Let me tell you. We all have to play live with or without a click. Yes we all have bad days playing speeding up or the forbidden dragging. Backbeater will help you stay on point. I use it at all my gigs, sessions, and clinics. Even when I'm using a click, so it can help me with my accuracy. When I'm on a gig with a anal (lol) singer or MD. When they or myself count off the song, we (drummers) can play the song in full confidence that we are holding that groove down and not wavering. Become one of the great time keepers and get yourself Backbeater. TRUST ME. It's worth it. Give yourself peace of mind at what we love to do so well, and that's GROOVE.. I have one at home, and one for travel. My drum tech even bought one. Enjoy. Dante' Taz Roberson

Absolute must

Superb design, durable and simple to use. Every drummer ‘should’ have this set up with their rig. It does not interfere with your existing triggers, rhythm samplers/tracks, etc…It stands alone as a ‘speedometer’ of sorts. Just a great way to check where you sit on the beat from time to time. I have seen other devices similar to this; but I must say, the quality here is far better and the price simply can’t be beat (pun intended). I actually didn’t even hook it up to the snare. I placed it on the Hi-hat cause thats where I keep my time. I don’t need to worry about all the inflections/fills/ghost notes on my snare…the hi-hat is steady. Though, if you choose, there is a toggle on the application to adjust the sensitivity for filtering out ghost notes on the snare and only track solid down beats. Well done!

Reported issues with Iphone5S in Dec 2013 and was told there had not been alot of testing done with the 5S. Would have been nice to know that before spending 60 bucks.I have noticed the following issues on my Iphone5S - sometimes trigger is recognized , sometimes not - doesnt save settings (beats/window/sensitivity) - sometimes it tracks beats , sometimes not - untrustworthy at my gigs - the help screen is of no use you click the topics and they do nothing??

App is free because the sensor is not
robgarbo

I have used a TempoRef for years and wanted to see what’s available for an iPhone app. This app is virtually useless without their sensor, which costs $60. Maybe I’m wrong but a piezo drum trigger runs about $20, so not sure what’s so special about their sensor. I’d love to try it in a live situation but not for $60.

Great product

Best tempo monitor I've ever used. Love that the sensor attaches via a lug and doesn't just sit on the top head. Quality product and would recommend

Comparison

I was using Tempo-Ref which was okay but IMHO I like Backbeater much better! It’s a great App and works great! Playing solid time is the drummer’s #1 job along with Feel. It’s nice to have proof for yourself that you’re in the pocket and not speeding up or slowing down the tempo!! Great job Backbeater!!!

Don’t buy the sensor
Sawfaw

If you want to use the product as just a metronome then try it out but don’t purchase the sensor. The first one I bought work for around a year(maybe) and it do work as stated however it did stop working because the wires detached inside the part that attaches to the drum. I went without for awhile and figured I give it another shot. The new sensor just arrived and it had been redesigned and looked more durable so I was pleased but then it doesn’t work at all out of the box. I’ve asked for a refund and I’m waiting on a response but beware of the sensor it is low quality.
