Fun enough that my 7 year old thinks it is a game

This a quality piece of language learning software that combines flash cards with voice recognition. You repeat a word in Dutch and you are scored on how well you pronounce it. That is the game aspect my son enjoys. The software also remembers the words you know and those that are more challenging (jeurgdherberg, for instance), and it asks you to review the words. The graphics are fantastic, as though the app developer used real professional photographers, but they are fun too. I would suggest some screen in the app for metrics on progress in mastering the language. Keep score, and compare scores to others, in other words. The ability to have multiple accounts for one language on one device would also be nice. My 7 year old and I pick up languages at a different pace.

Great learning tool!

I've got lots of tools for learning Dutch. I started with podcasts. And I still think they are number one for learning to hear/speak a new language. But Babbel is number two. The combination of audio, text, photos, repetition, spelling and speech recognition is really great. Unlike podcasts Babbel requires you to focus whenever you use it. I upgraded to a paid account. I use Babbel on the website and my iPhone, but the iPad is my favorite interface. The review feature is similar to Anki. It's a good measure of whether you really know a word or not. Please add more Dutch lessons. Thanks for helping me learn Dutch!

Missing important features.

I compared the Dutch to the French versions of this app. After deciding to learn Dutch, I ordered a subscription and got started. I was bummed to learn that the Dutch app is missing very important things that are included in the French app. Things like grammar and usage are needed, but not included in the Dutch app. The Dutch app does teach many words, but those words are useless if you don't learn how to make proper sentences. I feel like its incomplete, compared to the French app and at the same monthly cost. Good thing Babbel has a 20 day money back guarantee.

Avoid this app

To learn a language you are required to purchase a subscription which renews automatically until you remember to cancel it. The company relies on you not remembering to cancel it. They do not send you an e-mail reminder, they just charge you. There is no telephone support. The only way to get support of any kind is through e-mail. I strongly recommend avoiding this app and company.

Love it!!!

Intuitive, fun, and educational!

This is the first review I've written for any App. This program is competitive with Rosetta Stone for learning languages, but at a much more reasonable price. I highly recommend it!

Like it a lot

I've just started, but I'm really enjoying it. The only requesting have is that I would like a place where I can go to look up the words I've learned without having to go through the specific lesson again. Also, know it does cost money after the first lesson.

Easy to use

Good app for learning a language. It reminds you to review from time to time. The courses are good too.

Good learning tool but full of frustrating issues

This app is great when it works...have had it for several months now and have had to contact the support center at many different times for help. App crashes, won't give access AFTER PAYMENT IS MADE, gets stuck etc. it really is a good app, wish it had better support and less bugs
