Audible Ink

Audible Ink encodes imagery into sound. Take any image from your photo library and play it over your iPhone speakers or iPod headset.

This tool is similar to those that professional musicians, like Aphex Twin, use to embed imagery into their music. The vertical axis maps to frequency, and pixel brightness maps to volume, so bright pixels near the bottom will produce lower tones, and those near the top will be near ultrasound.

Many images will sound roughly like static, though with a spectrogram analyzer, like Spectrogram for the iPhone, you'll be able to clearly see your original picture. To produce clear tones, use images with thin, white lines.

This app also allows you to perform image processing algorithms on your photos such as edge detection and contrast stretching to improve the audio output and picture quality in a spectrogram.

Incredibly stupid

I can't believe I wasted $2.99 on this... I guess it sounded like an interesting idea... Save your money- bad.

Not bad for a buck

Audible ink is pretty fun to play with and worth a dollar for novelty alone. Long term entertainment factor is limited but that could easily be fixed with an update or two. If in the next version we could have a sequencer where we could put multiple photos in a timeline for playback would be cool. Also the ability to capture an image or sketch right in the app would be appreciated. An option to share cool creations via email or twitter would also add value to the application

An interesting idea performed well.

This is a interesting application that lets you take an image, and convert it to a sound. I don't really know how it works but it is neat. There is no way it could be made better, but honestly, there is no way it could be "bad". It just makes a buzzing sound that reacts to your image. It is neat, but and made well, but in my humble opinion, its more of a free app. 3 stars because it is neat, but -2 because it isn't free ~Yotsubachan

Fun!

Audible Ink is a fun little app that can keep the easily amused happy during their off time. Some things that might be considered in the next update are... Ability to draw an image rather than only input from the camera roll (yes, I know I could draw the image and then take a picture but this would be more elegant and it could possibly be used as a teaching tool. A button to return to the original image without having to go back to the camera roll. Take a picture from the app directly. A volume control. Gamma correction. Still, well worth $0.99!

Amazing!!!!!

Are you kidding me!!! 99 cents gets me an app that converts images I have to sound?!? Awesome! Soundscaping is amazing and can really kickstart those creative thoughts! I'm already using this app in two mixes!! Brilliant! Well done!

Don't waste your money

App doesn't work at all. Every time I open the app and try to put in a picture it closes. Save your $1

Crashes on launch don't buy

Clearly they've not updated this to work on the latest os versions. The app support page is gone. Doesn't work, you shouldn't waste your money.
