It's awesome! 120 bpm locked?

DaMacMaclure

Clocks locked at 120 bpm. I'll set it to say 86bpm then switch apps and come back and it goes back to 120. Everything but that is awesome.

Fantastic retro synth

But as others have noted, Gadget and standalone versions cannot share patches. Much easier to program this synth in standalone mode. You can do it, Korg, and we would love to have cloud sharing, preferably through Dropbox, in a future update.

Great app, there only problem is...

jld!

I liked this app so much that I just ordered the hardware version of this synth.

Incredible little synth app

randy_bottoms

I ordered this app thinking it would be a decent little synth program but when I played with it there were some amazing sounds. I love the programmable arpeggiator and the effects like distortion, phaser, flange, chorus, etc. A couple of complaints; there isn't any way to program the arpeggiator in gadget and the sounds that you program on the app won't transfer to it either. It seems like making such a great program the designers would allow more transfer to gadget. Also I can't figure out a way to record music on the odyssei app itself. All around I actually like this synth more than the microkorg synth that I owned. It's an incredible app for only $20. I would recommend this app to anybody.

Good sound, flawed offering

DennisK33

Overall, this is a feature-rich, great sounding app, and if that's what you're after, you'll be happy. However, there are some shortcomings that the potential buyer should be aware of. First, the manual is very weak, and barely scratches the surface. There are screen shot errors that don't match the copy, and the writing appears to be done by somebody who's not a native English speaker. Forgivable, but not exactly helpful. The oscillators are a problem; VCO1 and VCO2 do not run on the same frequency; you can fudge the fine tune on one or the other to get them to almost be the same pitch, but it makes me wonder what else is out of calibration that's less noticeable. It's sort of correctable, but one-half star down for that problem. The other issue I have a problem with is the weak MIDI implementation. Virtually every synth app I have lets you map MIDI controllers to the functions of the app. Not so, the Oddysei. It would be less problematic if the default mapping were ok, but the mod control on my Arturia modulates the Arpeggiator steps, and when it snaps back to center, the Arpeggiator bumps down to 1 step. All it takes is a bump and zammo, my arpeggiator is whacked! The only solution is to re-load the preset. I'm trying to find on which planet this might be considered musically useful, but it's not this one. This knocks the score down a point and a half. I suspect Korg licensed this from a 3rd party, because overall, it's not up to their usual standards. I hope the do a rev that addresses these issues, at which time I'll address my rating. 3 stars.

Pluses and minuses, but mostly good

dysamoria

Pluses: • This came out with Gadget support on day one. Good choice by Korg. Thank you, and thanks also for the sale price. • Beautiful GUI and icon. • Excellent sound quality. Really a fantastic-sounding synth overall. Minuses: • No IAA transport controls. This is a problem with ALL of Korg's apps. • Fiddly controls. This is a problem with ALL of Korg's apps, especially Gadget. • No data exchange via email. • No data exchange at all. I have not tested for the pitch/key tracking issue some of the other reviewers have mentioned. I'll come back to update my review if I find any such problem as I begin to use this synth in my music.

A classic

qwesterish

This instrument is a classic, this remake of it is really good. I am pleased with the sound of this app. Great fun to use in gadget as well. I am not pleased with the preset system. It needs a way to export presets for sharing and to exchange with the gadget ecosystem. Fantastic app with a flaw. 4/5 for nostalgia and sound compared to other apps.

Another fine iOS synth from Korg.

Rreenn2015

Though pricey, it's another great Korg iOS synth. Nice to see the development team is so responsive when it comes to correcting and and enhancing the code. Keep up the good work.

Pitch does not track correctly in Gadget

wavetracer

Latest update adds "Equal" tuning in settings, which does correct the issue of pitch not tracking the keyboard correctly. Unfortunately, there is no way to set this when used as a synth from within Gadget; it uses its "Analog" tuning setting, which sounds badly out of tune. Really hope KORG fixes this so it's usable in Gadget, because otherwise it's an incredible synth.

Great sounding synth. Now release it for OS X!

BubbaGumppp

This synth sounds really fantastic! I hope you will consider releasing it for desktop and laptop Macs next. I would also like to see a MIDI matrix modulation panel added. Also it is hard to see some of the controls since they are black on a black background. Please consider updating the color scheme slightly.
