AnQ

AnQ (pronounced UnK) is a number game. Your iPhone (or iPod Touch) randomly generates a secret four-digit number that you attempt to identify. You have a maximum of nine attempts to do so. After each attempt your device provides you with two pieces of information: 1) the number of digits (out of four) matching the secret number and 2) the number of digits (out of four) in the correct place.

The game is reminiscent of Mastermind and Jotto. The one big difference is that in those games a single color (in Mastermind) or letter (in Jotto) can appear in multiple positions. In AnQ, no number appears more than once. That makes the game much easier. Still, it is fun and could be useful in helping to teach logic to kids.

AnQ is a challenging but fun number guessing game that is actually much more than just a guessing game. You probably won't get the number on your first try but if you keep at it and use some logic you will be amazed at how you can get a 4 digit number with very little information and with less then 9 tries.

This is an excellent application of game theory and mathematical odds. A straightforward interface guarantees no freezes or temper fits. The game is designed to be ALWAYS solvable in nine tries or less unless you waste a guess (or more) by repeating the same digits in the same location. When you hear that final correct answer "ping" you will automatically start over again!
