Could be excellent.

Let me start by saying that Anodyne is a beautifully crafted indie masterpiece that tickles my nostalgic memories of Zelda ALTTP. The game is definitely unique and oftentimes oddly presented, but the dungeons are very thoughtfully planned out and every enemy acts differently and must be fought using unique strategies. For those of you used to games giving clear instructions in what you need to do and where you need to go, you might end up a little lost. For me, this is major plus. This game isn't about rushing around to complete a quest, it's about exploring and finding your own path. I give this game three stars based entirely on the controls, which I believe need a lot of work. Foremost, you lose a lot of screen to black bars surrounding the game. I realize this might not be possible to fix, as most of the areas are smaller than a screen, but I'd like to see something more suitable and immersive. Secondly, please give us alternative options for the controls, or even allow us to place them ourselves. Last and most importantly, PLEASE work on the input lag. I realize you suggest popping out to main menu, but it happens so often that it becomes extremely frustrating. I sometimes feel like I am playing an old game boy with sticky buttons, on a touch screen! I have no issues giving this game 5 stars if the input controls are worked on. In a small note, exiting the app via multitasking breaks my game. When I enter back in, the screen is shifted all the way to the left and all the onscreen buttons disappear. This isn't game breaking for me, i just wanted to notify the developer. I'm sure this is an easy fix. Regardless, I am thoroughly enjoying this game and hope you bring some more indie love to the AppStore.

I love it!!!!! :)

This is a very very good adventure game!!!! But the controls need a little work. But other than that one of the best games that I played!!!

Almost good

The Varsity Hero

Good idea for a game, but the control responsiveness is absolutely horrible/unplayable. Fix the joystick and movement functions to stop randomly getting stuck going in one direction, and make it possible to jump IN A DESIRED DIRECTION.

This is A awesome game

This game is one of the best games on the appstore

Amazing!!

I had no idea this game was being ported over to iOS and immediately grabbed it when I saw it on the AppStore. This is an amazing game and everyone should grab it. I've read a ton of praise for this game over the past couple of months and so far it's all been worth it. Also a huge thanks to the developer for fixing the issues I mentioned in an earlier version of this review. Five stars for sure!

Terrible update

Fhardy

Love the and but the latest update made the controls go from pretty annoying to insanely annoying. I keep accidentally touching the side of the gameplay area instead of the control pad! It's impossible not to. I'm going in the wrong direction and falling off ledges constantly! Arrrgh. Please make the new control style OPTIONAL. It's infuriating.

Controls still need work

Touching the screen to move there is interesting, but I'm not sure that's the best approach for a game like this. The fixed onscreen virtual d-pad still has occasional sticking issues (buttons held down well after fingers released)

Still Unplayable

Drewsefur

The stuttering jump issue has been fixed. But unfortunately this most recent update adds a new problem. For some reason they added the ability to move by touching the game play screen. So when you are dragging right on the D pad, if you drag a little to far, your finger is on the left side of the screen and the unexpectedly player reversed direction. Thank you for fixing the horrible jump stuttering issue - please remove the 'control by touching game play area' feature. It kills the controls, and no one would want to control the game this way anyway, because the visible area is so small that you can hardly see anything when you put your fingers over it. If this issue gets fixed, ill change my review to 5 stars. Looks like it could be a great game, if it were playable. The small screen size is also pretty annoying but I can live with it.

I beat the game almost entirely without the jump fix update. I died a lot, but I still had so much fun playing. when the jump fix came out, the levels right before Briar were so much easier, as well as collecting the rest of the secret cards and stuff. what I say to you guys complaining about whatever, stop being babies and play this awesome game already.

I want to like this game...

BNCordova

But the controls are way too glitchy. In order to kill a monster or make your way across blue pulsating lasers you need just the right amount of distance and precision to manage both, but can't because the controls get stuck (even though their digital) and send my player charging in one direction! I keep dying because of this and it's getting frustrating.
