Perhaps I'm missing something...

Let me start by saying that I love difficult games, and am completely comfortable with high stakes. I'm happy to die again and again if I'm given the opportunity to succeed by virtue of my decisions. However, this game is mostly on rails, with very little choice for the player of what to do next. Within minutes of beginning each game I encounter a relentless enemy with a +9 to every attack. If I spend $1 more to get a character that rolls two dice in combat, I have a miniscule chance to win if I roll boxcars. The game forces me around a circle so that I cannot avoid encountering the same enemy again and again until I'm dead. Serious rage quit. Deleted.

ANCIENT LEGACY...

Game Stew continues to make unique, original, great games... Just a bit disappointed in the amount of IAPs this time around. You only get two heroes and the rest need to be purchased. Premium apps should at least have the option to earn these types of items in-game.

A Great Addition to the Series
Retr0spective

Each of the Game Stew games retains their idiosyncratic graphical style and apocalyptic vision while introducing a new gameplay mechanic. In the Tower of Fortune games this was a slot machine mechanic within an ascending or descending Tower. In Gargoyle Ruins this was a Game & Watch mechanic within a dungeon. War of Eclipse features flying ships battling Evangelion-esque angels using a guage mechanic. In Devil Shard you battle waves of enemies using a match-3 mechanic. Ancient Legacy introduces their most non-linear progression yet through the tabletop boardgame style and dice gameplay mechanic. Your hero advances along the perimeter of the board within an invisible or transparent series of squares. Each of the elements of the ornate border represents a unique area of its own with several possibilities that can occur depending on the random roll of the dice. You first role to determine how far your character moves. From the designated square you then role to determine the event that will transpire and then role again to determine the outcome of the event or battle. Events are very similar to those found in Tower of Fortune 2 but seem to me to include more narrative-centric occurrences related to the location. (Familiar iconic foes such as the Scum Family also make an appearance.) From the starting board you have access, depending on where you land, to different game boards each with their own unique missions and narratives. Each square of each different location seems to provide unique opportunities and secrets. Combined with the randomization of the dice mechanic this makes for a tremendous amount replay value. Ever since the original release of the very well-received Tower of Fortune, I have been a big fan of Game Stew and continually surprised and delighted by their creative series of games. Much thanks to the developers for continuing to make such unique and enjoyable games!

My Favorite Game Developer
bookemdano92

If you want a sense of being in the world of the game and like games where they don't feel like they are on rails, this is the developer for you. Game Stew are masters at suspension of disbelief and giving you ownership of your destiny. I always feel like I can go anywhere in the world. Tower of Fortune 2 was probably my top three favorite games of all time. I just loved it! After an hour of this I am really enjoying it, but I do miss the slot reel for the random element. I felt like I still had one more element in my favor with slots, but this is still awesome. I just love these games. The other great thing about this developer is the one touch simplicity of the interface in most of these games. You are never overwhelmed by hundreds of decisions that you will find in most adventure RPGs these days. You just make simple decisions. It lets you stay in the story and 'watch' the events unfold. If they could only make a Lord of the Rings game I would gladly pay $40.00 for it. The type of template that Game Stew uses is perfect for casual game play hybrid RPGs. Thank you, Game Stew!!

Awesome Board/RPG!!!

Great retro style graphics. Think Talisman: DE on a gameboy. Fun and addictive. Look forward to future updates. IAP for additional heroes. Normally, I hate everything about IAP's but Game astew is a small company that puts out high quality games. Support this game and I hope to see more quality from this company.

Awesome

A great little game. Just understand that everything is a role of the dice, so take the bad rolls in stride with the good and you'll have a great time!

Underrated Dev

Game Stew makes some of the simplest, yet deeply-engaging games in the App Store. In my opinion, they're one of the platform's best developers -- with a unique stylistic vision. Ancient Legacy is their best game yet. This is a completely refined experience, and perfectly executed. The perfect mix of mobile and boardgame-style RPG gaming. Get it!

Addictive.

Love the board game feel and the authentic gameplay! Thanks developers!

Terrible Game

Entirely based on random luck. Constantly frustrating with no incentives to replay. All the worst parts of a roguelike without any of the good. Wish I could get my money back.
