"Awesome and simple app for teaching kids to recognize letter-sounds"
-Educational Game Review
"Creative and entertaining pre-literacy app"
-InnovativeLearning.com
Alphabet Zoo is designed and reviewed by educators to teach children letter-sound association, an essential skill for learning to read. More importantly, kids have fun playing with the animals and creative sounds without even realizing they're learning.
Letter-sound association, or teaching children what sounds the letters make, is the first step to preparing children to be successful readers. The Congressionally-mandated National Reading Panel concluded that children who have “phonics instruction read better and spell better than other children”. Understanding letter-sounds is much more than being able to simply recite the alphabet, but actually understanding the sounds that the letters make in context of real words.
The app is primarily aimed at preschool kids between the ages of 2 and 5. The competencies in Alphabet Zoo are aligned to the US Common Core curriculum standards for phonics and word recognition under Foundational Skills for Reading at the kindergarten level.
I came back to download it just to hear that porcupine again and I can’t get because of the update ? this was seriously the best! I have it on my old iPad but the sound isn’t working for some reason on just this app. Oh what I would do to just hear the porcupine again.
My son and I have laughed at this app for years (he’s 9 now). Not necessarily that educational but man we’ve laughed at the sounds, of course the porcupine is the best. I’ve played it for so so many of my friends. Was just going to play it for some other friends and app needs to be updated. ?
Love the simple design. Love the illustrations. LOVE the sounds!! Great app for teaching and entertaining kids; also great for anyone to have some extra laughs.
What a great app!! Very creative and effective teaching tool. We laughed until we cried at the different sounds. Animation and illustrations were very clear and recognizable. Design was simple enough so that the whole focus could be on the letters, pronounciations, and examples. Fantastic app!
I have a whole bunch of ABC apps on my phone, but my kids keep going back to this one - must be the crazy sounds or something. Good work.
I downloaded it for the kids to play with. But I ended up playing with for an hour!
Best app I ever saw, 17 years old and still loved it! Made me cry at the end it was so good. The voice reminded of someone I know.......
I don't know what's creepier the drawings or the sounds! You couldn't have just recorded some real animals off national geographic or something??
