Very informative A little bit of everything

Poor grammar too far left leaning

Cmichaela87

Only used for Alabama football. Too far left-leaning to represent the values of the readers of the state of Alabama.

Very Good Coverage

Overall pretty good.

VoiceOver user.

Newest update, July 16, 2019: Still unable to close popup ads, and sometimes get alert “unauthorized access”, despite having settings configured to minimize ads. Can’t finish article because of ads getting in the way. App Support still has no app support. April 10, 2019 update:The issues I mention in the following list of my previous reviews have not been addressed. In addition, when I search for a news article that disappeared just as I was about to read it, the News heading cane up, but the article possibilities did not. My general conclusion is that portions of the app are not VoiceOver friendly, and that others simply may not be working. The pop up ads still don’t close when I hit “Close button for the advertisement “; the content still jumps around a bit in Real-time News, when I bring up an article from a notification; and sometimes, when I bring up a specific section, the previously opened ones do not close, so I must spend considerable time searching for the one I _just opened. When VoiceOver users wish to access material from al.com, we might be better off going to the Apple News app, typing Al.com into the search field in Channels, and reading the articles that come up there, even though the choices may be a bit more limited. As I mention in one of my earlier reviews (see below), the app isn’t working at its _worst now; but, there is much room for improvement. Also, the fact that the developer never responds to the customer reviews isn’t a very good sign. Even if the developer just responded with something like “not optimized for VoiceOver”, at least I would know that the reviews are being read. Please read on—and, my apology that this is long. Updated 3/1/19: The “Close Button for the Advertisement” still doesn’t work. I haven’t had that meaningless chain of numbers pop up recently , but the ads still do; and there seems to be no way to close them. At times, they are so large, and so intrusive, that they make it nearly impossible to read the article—which is generally very informative—especially when using a screen reader. This only happens on the “Real-Time News” feeds. Please fix! My (numerous) previous reviews follow. Updated 11/2/18: Back to 4 stars; it’s working much better than it did for a while (see my previous reviews below). The main problem now is an ad, appearing as a chain of numbers, that sometimes pops up while I’m reading. The button that is supposed to close the ad doesn’t work. Worst of all, when I press the Home button for any reason while in this app, it takes a while for the numbers to disappear; thus, they interfere with whatever I’m trying to do. I realize that ads are a necessary evil; but please fix that Close button, so I can at least finish reading an article without it being completely blocked by a meaningless chain of numbers! Back to about a 3-star rating on 9/19/18; see previous reviews below, beginning with earliest. Now, when I type in a search item, the search results do not come up. In this case, it was an article I was in the middle of reading. A notification popped up from another app, which caused this article to disappear. I entered the approximate title, but the results wouldn’t come up. Portions of the app are again becoming less VoiceOver friendly. When I tried to go to the Contact Us section to notify them of these issues, the link I needed for contacting them wouldn’t work. I may have to resort to finding these articles through Apple News again. This was a life-saver when the al-com app was working so badly a few months a go. / Most of the time, this app works very well, but there are times when it is really frustrating. The main one is when I get a notification, and am taken into a whole sequence of stories, like what some refer to as a news feed. I'm glad for the feed, but the problem comes when something glitches and sends me out of the feed, and into an array of separate articles. Those are fine, but I haven't found a way to get back into the news feed, which I wanted to finish reading. The Categories button doesn't take me there and, for that matter, sometimes it doesn't work well with VoiceOver. Otherwise, this is a terrific app. Here is an unfortunate update. I have had to lower my rating to 1 star, because the situation I mentioned earlier is still there. Now, in addition, when the feed comes up, one can't even read the articles without the feed jumping around. It stays within the article, unless the whole feed disappears; however, trying to get through an article is now a real nightmare. Reinstalling the app doesn't help; neither does adding the article to my Safari reading list and selecting Reader. This latest quirk just started yesterday. Yet another update. I'd give it zero stars now, because most of it just isn't working. When I initially installed a predecessor of this app, it worked much better and, until recently, this one did pretty well. Now, I'm having to part with it for good for the aforementioned reasons and because now, in addition to everything else, if the app is open, it sometimes interferes with the operation of any other apps that are also open. I don't know if it's as bad for non-VoiceOver users, but at this point, I would say "Try it at your own risk". I hope it will get a complete makeover soon, and come out much better. Wow! What a difference an update makes! Other than a minor glitch that causes the material to jump around a bit when an ad pops up (and there is a workaround for that), the app is working much better. I’m no longer being shot out of the RealTime feed in the middle of an article, and the app is no longer freezing in the middle of the feed. When it would freeze, the only choice was to exit to the home screen, re-enter the app, let it crash, and then close and reopen the app. At that point, it never opened to the place at which it froze. Thank you for the fixes. I am no longer pulling my hair out, at least in this app.

Editors opinion

Angry Patriot 68

I do not care what the editor thinks of the president! Keep your opinion to yourself! Many people disliked the administration prior but you did not see people ramming their opinion down your throat as this editor feels he needs to do

Liberal spin on almost everything

Tony L Brewer

It seems every Op Ed is bashing the President. I don’t recall the same criticism of the last eight years of destroying America. I only read the website for the breaking news that doesn’t have a liberal spin.
