2.5 stars on a good day

Although I like the game's premise, the control setup ruins the gameplay. You must face an enemy to attack it, but the controls are very unresponsive if you're being attacked. If an enemy approaches you from the side, chances are you'll be dead long before you're able to face them and defend yourself. Enemies will also attack you from angles, but your angled 'attacks' do nothing. Could be a fun game, but controls need a serious overhaul. Why not add a virtual joystick instead of the clunky, unresponsive directional pad?!?

Very addicting! Multiplayer?

Aldwyn

This game has definitely glued my eyes to the screen, but a few new features could make many more people buy and become addicted as well. Firstly, I think multiplayer compatibility through Bluetooth (and/or wifi) would top off the game. If this feature was added, I would undoubtedly convince as many friends as I could to buy the game so we could play it together when we hung out, and I think others would do the same. Secondly, since single player would seem a lot less fun, companions should be added. They would be in two classes, humanoid or beast. The humanoids would be mythological races (like goblins, orcs, elves, etc.) that you could craft armor or weapons just like your own and give to them to help you fight. The beasts, on the other hand, could be Pandas, Lions (wild animals), farm animals, house pets, or even enemies in the game. You could name these guys, and craft special gear for all of them ( armor, and some kind of weapon, like metal claws for a tiger, or a metal glove for a panda). Also, if any companion happened to outlive you, you could stumble upon it in a future play through and it would recognize you were heroic like its previous leader and follow you (or you could have the option to fight it). If you thing that taming them is a stretch, it would come in scenarios, like finding the companion as a child, and having to add pieces of ore to its gear as it rapidly grows, or come upon it very hungry/ and or wounded and helping it solve that problem. If these features were added to the game, it would make each play through very unique, and the game overall would be improved.

Rogue Ninja Evolved

NSException

I've thought for years that Rogue Ninja was one of the best roguelike games in the App Store, but ultimately success was largely determined by luck. One playthrough would hand you amazing gear on the first level; the next would doom you to starvation. Alchemic Dungeons is the spiritual successor to Rogue Ninja, and it succeeds amazingly where its predecessor failed. Rather than stumbling across finished products, you gather raw materials and decide whether to mix simple potions, forge equipment, craft powerful one-shot spells, or fashion modest but permanent gear enchantments. It's still fun, it's still difficult, but now it's actually fair.

Excellent game, excellent style

FancyPheasant

In response to a couple earlier reviews, this is excellent for casual and hardcore players equally; NetHack may be a true Roguelike, but this matches up just as well (NetHack was my first of this genre). Been waiting for an RPG with both crafting and Roguelike exploration, except Alchemical Dungeon delivers better than I expected! 4/5 stars because it needs a help section. Someone complained the game forces you to move to face a given direction, but I learned otherwise (tap the dungeon screen)...after a couple days of playing, and only then by chance. Help section would fix that.

Could Use Some Work

Alright, so the game play is alright but it's almost too easy, like way too easy. The point of the game is to just make to to the next level and dag gone it it is so easy. If you're looking for a game that is a pixelated but challenging game, don't get this one. The music is very repetitive and it gets very annoying. I know some songs need to be repetitive because they can't just have a whole play list of random songs, but this sounds like atari, like just 1 note played over and over again. This game does have crafting though, but since the game is so easy, you can get filled up to the max supplies easily. The max is 5...5! Like really? Also there are really not that many items to craft at all and there is no degrading of items or armor, so you just keep it forever. If you're looking for a more challenging but slightly more expensive game, go with Pixel Dungeons. It's far more worth your money. Please come out with an update quick.

Amazing...but you should update it often...

Well, the game is great. I like how you need to craft your own stuff and such. What really made me mad was that when I completed a dungeon, my stuff didn't go to the next dungeon. I got a green crystal, oh...yay. The bad part is I can't use it because it deletes it instantly after! Also I would like more characters.

Awesome game

Baconmaster95

This is all around a really good game. For anyone out there who has played Pokemon mystery dungeon, this game extremely similar. I highly recommend this game. One bug tho is whenever I get stuck in a needle trap my game crashes

Eh... Pretty good.

This game's first impression is confusion. The tutorial teaches you nothing, and you're thrust right into your first game immediately afterwards. But once you get past the bad music and figure out the crafting system, it's actually pretty fun, albeit unchallenging. All you have to do to win is get healing on your sword and armor, and just like that you're invincible. The game definitely needs more depth, such as puzzles within the levels and a different goddamn floor layout. I could see this becoming a great game, after a fair share of tweaks and content packages.

Great game

This game is really fun and almost perfect. I would like to see landscape orientation implemented though as the control pad is a little close. Other than that great game

3 suggestions

1) In Rogue Hero, there's an option to change direction, without taking a step. This is a great feature, to more easily use long range weapons. I would like to see this as well. 2) Some sort of minor progression after death would be nice. For example maybe give you an option to keep one item after death. 3) there should be some sort of cloud save or way to link to your Facebook, in case you delete the game, and can then retrieve your progress. Update: Unseen enemies are tough at higher difficulties, so maybe add an item that you can create to see enemies on maps, like the already very rare dropped accessory that shows all enemies an items on a map. I was wrong, to change direction without moving, press the actual map. Also for those saying it's too easy, it gets challenging around stage 20, at difficulty 4. Overall I really enjoy this, and love the retro graphics
