Why can't you shot down other planes

Overall, game controls are good, but why can't you shot down other planes? Why are you limited to only one target?
Technically beautiful, but too repetitive

The graphics, engine, sound, and gameplay are all great. It's a beautiful game. However, it's way too repetitive. Each mission is the same - shoot down 2 (or 3 or more) planes. After 3 or 4 of those, I got bored. UI could use a good overhaul too - it really doesn't match the polish of the rest of the graphics.
