Great quick resource

2017 update: I still love this app and still give it five stars, for all the reasons I stated two years ago. AND, they've added the origins/history feature I had wished for. So if I could, I would give it six stars! Here's my original review from 2015: **** I love this app. I purchased it in 2008 or so for my iPod Touch, and kept it as an active app when I graduated to the smart phone world with an iPhone 5 (2012?), and now iPhone 6 (2015). It's been my hands-down preference over the other dictionary/thesaurus apps I've tried. It's easy to use (brilliantly simplistic and organized), consistently reliable (only one or two updates since that 2008 timeframe do I recall it ever crashing, which was quickly fixed), and each new version seems to make it increasingly entertaining! For example, one version added idioms, which I believe are an important part of our vernacular, and with their addition I can check to be sure I'm using them in the generally accepted context (my mother was from a very small [and for the record, well-educated] town ... so many of the ones I grew up with are unique to that locale, and consequently confusing to very multicultural metropolitan D.C. where I live). If I had to come up with feedback for improvement, it would be to add even more synonyms to accompany definitions and to add a blurb on the words' origins. I miss my bound version of Roget's Thesaurus (two major sections--the latter being a straight-up thesaurus, the former organizing words by major category and sub-category--great for when you want to find that perfect descriptive word that's on the tip of the tongue). I have the Roget's Thesaurus app, but still prefer the bound book for ease of use (but a bit too heavy to lug around ;) ) Origin of words is fascinating to me and helps me to remember the word's exact definition. Adding either of these would probably complicate the best aspects of this app though--it's straight-forward simplicity, ease of use and reliability. In short, I think anyone who purchases this dictionary app will be very pleased with their money spent.

I use this Dictionary a lot

ziggy1903

I like this program and use it a lot. The best feature is to book mark or save the different words to come back to later for spelling or definitions.

Pretty reliable app

The absolute best app. For people that enjoy reading or expanding their vocabulary and can't spell as good as when they were younger; this is a must have. Well worth the price. Thank you!

A Difference That Matters

This is beyond definition or synonyms. If you're a writer, it'll move your recognitions toward relevance.

Thank you! Simple and useful. Thank you to the offline pronunciation. And I like reading the origin of words.

My Go-to app!

Bren 64

As a child I was taught to "look it up". I learned that my parents were not always going to give me the answer or guess the answer. Later guessing wasn't satisfactory to me either, so I bought my very own dictionary and thesaurus on campus. This dictionary is even more than I expected and a joy to search, even medical terms are defined. At 69 and disabled I spend even more time reading and studying. Word origins are an interest of mine and are included in this app. Get it.
