Since the last update no matter what you do videos ads will play on you. While you scroll past it be it will pop up the ad and play it. Make sure your volume is turned down if you want spam.

I’ve been using the BBC app for years as my main news source. Unfortunately one of the recent updates seems to have introduced intrusive auto-playing video ads that pop up and take over the entire screen, opening into the video player repeatedly when I so much as touch the screen or scroll down reading articles. This is infuriating and needs to be done away with. It’s bad enough to have an ever increasing number of ads imbedded in the articles but the app repeatedly opening them all automatically is ridiculous.

Ads pop up with sound blaring while in the middle of reading an article. Do you need more ad revenue? Is this really necessary?

This use to be one of my favorite apps for years until about 2 days ago when video ads started to pop up all the time. If it continues, I will sadly be deleting the app.

Auto play ads started running. This used to be a great source for news. Now it is unusable and annoying.

This was a great app, now it’s unusable due to the new auto play of video ads. I usually read news on silent, now these video ads blast full volume when you scroll by. Unusable. Find a different news app.

After having and liking this app for years these new pop up ads are infuriating and are making me consider deleting the app.

The app keeps auto playing commercials of full screen. My phone being on silent doesn’t keep the sound from being played, making the app almost unusable in public.

Used to be great, now pops up unwanted video ads randomly. What is worse, the ads have sound so you need to mute your device if you want to avoid irritating those around you. I am looking for an alternative.

This app has become unusable to me due to the constant stream of ads that automatically play (with sound!) while scrolling through articles. You cannot scroll for more than 30 seconds without your entire screen being commandeered by an ad for a car commercial or something else. I prefer BBC news to CNN, but at least the multitude of advertisements on the CNN app are easily avoidable tiles or hyperlinks. I’ve closed the app on multiple occasions in frustration and choose other news outlet apps even though I really love the BBC’s quality of reporting.
