Ads degrade user experience – Tiny Tower: Tap Idle Evolution Review

PRO: I love this game and have been playing daily since July. I design each tower around a different theme, which is fun. I also enjoy the social part of the game, sharing bits with other players and communicating via bitbook. I paid for the VIP package (head’s up: it goes on sale from $40 US down to $20 on the weekend), which IMO is worth the cost because it makes it easier to accumulate in-game currency without watching ads, makes the elevator easier to use, and gives you more options for changing the appearance of your elevator and adding pets without using in-game currency. CON: Unfortunately, ads degrade the user experience, even for those who have VIP. For example, since the beginning of December 2021 there have been 3 badges that permanently appear on the screen offering additional purchases (which must be targeted at new players, since experienced players can see aren’t a good deal). In addition, another badge (that thankfully can be dismissed by tapping) appears on the screen every few minutes offering in game currency for watching ads. I would be okay with the dismissible offers to watch ads if they didn’t include ads for sketchy products aimed at exploiting vulnerable people (e.g., bogus weight loss products). Another recent problem with the game is that there was an update in December 2021 which locked some players out of the game, which has not yet been fully remedied despite several updates.
