Hotline Miami meets terminal velocity – Downwell Review

When I get many games, they start out endearingly basic and some bloom into monstrously entertaining games. When I got Downwell I thought this was going to be a quickly boring jaunt into thumb-busting 8-bit territory. While not a strategy-rewarding life-devourer like Imbroglio, this is a fun time-waster with a novel way of making a fall down a hole appealing to roguelife players - players of those games where repeated deaths lead to better starting options. If you are looking for a soul-altering game, $2.99 is a bit of a question mark, but otherwise a fantastic job. Not recommended for slow types, but DW did help me dust my game thumbs off and get away from turn-based play for a bit. Just one addendum: while this is procedurally generated, it is an action game above all. Look up Bump & Jump.
