I used to like this app. I hate it now. I'm looking at alternatives for this app and premium. It's obvious the devs don't think about users with large screens. For example, thumbnails take up an entire 1/3 of the screen in split view. Way too big. Poor layout and functionality. Videos automatically scale when in portrait mode, and usually, portrait mode videos aren't high quality enough for a bigger screen, so it looks terrible. It's annoying that videos can shift the contents of the entire page around due to having a unique aspect ratio, if the video is in a playlist, etc.. It feels like the YouTube devs have no idea what they want the app to be. So many features are strongly suited for long content (tons of unnecessary animations/movements that would be annoying when switching between videos quickly) while others are suited for short content (auto-scaling videos). The experience is awful. Every update has made things worse for a year now. The worst was the automatic scaling of videos which don't fit the standard YouTube video aspect ratio. If you want to read the comments like most people do, scrolling down will cover part of the video even though your screen is over 10 inches across and NOT a small phone which doesn't have the extra space to view both the video and the comments. The last I'll mention is that some options are broken in the app. Turning off end cards on videos (which I've always set to off) does not work. The end cards block a lot part of the video, and you can't remove them. It's so easy to accidentally click something when for even ten whole seconds at the end of a video, they cover the entire screen. I could go on, but I know nothing will change for the better. This is so other iPad users know not to get this app. It's bad and always getting worse.
