I am always on the lookout for good Vintage-photo apps, and I was optimistic when I saw this one. But as soon as I opened it, I could see it wasn't made with much thought or care. In fact, it struck me as being just a vehicle to place ads. The first thing you'll notice is that the app wants to chop all your landscape photos into a square, whether such serious cropping away of nearly half your image works or not. The app is only for iPhones, (not universal), and if you select an image with portrait orientation, it inexplicably opens SIDEWAYS in the app. Then it's on to the filters, which are a mish-mash of grayscale and sepia textures overlayed on your photo, with an opacity slider to vary the amount of the effect. Most of the options are simply pencil strokes and scribbles, which really have nothing to do with vintage photos. Even the photos in 1902 didn't have pencil strokes and scribbles all over them. This app is basically one of those so-called "drawing" apps, which supposedly turns your photo into a sketch by overlaying a pencil texture over the image. But since there are already a zillion of those apps out there, this developer decided to call his app "Vintage Retro" camera app. The app offers three buttons upon opening; Gallery, Camera and More Apps. If you use the camera, it also contains the basic Aviary editing utility. So, one star for that. But you can get that everywhere, so it's nothing particularly new or special. As I said earlier, this is basically an attempt to cash in on the words "vintage" and "retro" in order to show advertising. But there is virtually NOTHING here that comes remotely close to fitting either of those words.
