Engaging Experience

NomadNick

very interesting experience. It really draws you into what's happening. I don't really care for puzzles though when you have no idea what you're supposed to do, and the ending is a bit ambiguous, but I guess you're supposed to read into it whatever you want.

A really, really, really misunderstood game.

Hope This is Helpful

Yes, I picked this game up a long time ago, yes I heard it takes time, yes I tried it and promptly deleted it after trying to figure out what the heck I was playing. I understand you. And because I understand you, I must insist that you don’t drop this game. I picked it up again with the intent of not playing a game, but watching experiences unfold before me and exploring the mind of this “sailor"…that changed everything. From the beautiful visual imagery down to the intriguing memories displayed in vivid text…I really fell in love with this up. There’s so much to discover and ample clues to discover it with. All the memories can be explored in any order and in any direction (you explore places)…but they are still seamlessly connected. The game itself, takes about a week to unfold…and this is why: TIME IS RELEVANT. The hours you open it, the day you open it, it is all relevant to the progression. You have to collect memories and songs, and only then will you wake up from this sailor’s dreams. It’s haunting yet beautiful, optimistic yet sad, colorful yet jaded…it can be quite an emotional experience if you let it. This game won’t be for everyone, but if you’re like me… you may have dropped it at first, but perhaps instead of making the game approach us, we should approach it on its own terms.

Melancholy and interesting but way too brief

This is a very creative and for a short while absorbing experience (not really a game) reminiscent of (and maybe inspired by) old computer games like MYST and RIVEN but way more abbreviated. The scenery and sound effects are excellent and the songs are folksy and pretty if you like that sort of thing but overall there is very limited interaction with the scenes (you just swipe up/down and left/right to navigate between rooms with not much to explore in the rooms) and little replay value and the ending to me is unsatisfying and weak. I cheated and used the iPad clock to move ahead but even so the whole thing is over in 1 to 2 hrs and moving time just gives you more song bottles and radio broadcasts and one new rowboat, otherwise the scenes don't change. The ending is one new shore and very brief. I don't mind the 4$ but as far as apps go I was really expecting a lot more from this one.

Very Pretty, but is that all there is?

I’ll keep trying but this is getting repetitive. Someone wrote that new stuff would happen day by day, but I just don’t have the patience. I’ll check back when I remember to do so. Waiting for the catharsis...

Needs better writing

I'm a big fan of this company, I think the art work and innovation of their titles is easily the best on the App Store. This is more of an interactive story than a game, unfortunately I think that's its weakest aspect. The story seemed vague and even disturbing, and it didn't all add up as an experience for me. I hope in upcoming titles the writing will be on the same impeccable level as the design and visuals. Still a big fan and impressed by it, but disappointed overall.

A huge disappointment.

I am an informed gamer - I read through tons of reviews and the developer webpage and everything before buying this. I loved Device 6 and I loved Year Walk - unfortunately Sailors Dream falls very far short of either. I was OK with the the time constraints of the game, impressed with the unusual quality it gave the narrative, even. But the narrative itself is not interesting enough to make me want to log in every hour to hear a transition, and was barely enough for me to log in every day for a song. The developer is awesome, and I will continue to check out everything they release, but this one was a bust.

No sound, no app support.

Total silence. Makes this game completely pointless. App support only links to a blog.

Absolutely Beautiful

When I first played this game it was over summer break and I wanted to explore every inch. I told my friends about this game and those who took my advice and went through this beautiful adventure agreed, this app is absolutely amazing. I loved every second learning the story and playing with the noise makers. Thank you to all who contributed to making this app a reality!

Lost in a dream

This is just the kind of game/app/interactive story for me. I love stuff like this. In this one, you just kind of float around from place to place unlocking a story. You don't do a whole lot. Personally, I think it was worth the price. And to the people complaining about it, maybe they should have done a little research about it before they "wasted" their money. If they want more adventure and game like aspects, they should get the developers other game "Year Walk" or for less adventure and more puzzles, they should get "Device 6" both equally as engaging, visually stunning, and slightly off putting.
