"...Think EA’s Boom Blox meets Atari’s Breakout... Definitely a winner for both adults and kids alike, especially considering how much gameplay you get for the price. "

Very glad to see this on iPhone
Hexhammer

This game seems like strike ball on PC, I love it very much, surely I'll buy this one and give it a try.

Alawar, thanks for update! :)

I bought MB 2 v.1.0 and was really sad with bug I saw. Now - everything is great! Nice music, amazing levels, cool anims. Menu - the menu is just brilliant!! ;) And controls - I think tilt control - is enough smooth and it will be suitable for everyone. :) Thanks!

Fun unique brick breaker...

This a really nice casual brick breaking type game. There are a ton of powerups to use in the game. The levels are nicely done and colorful. There could be a few more options for controls though.

3D Brick Breaker That's Unique in Fun and Design
AlbieOne

In today’s crowded marketplace of games, it takes a lot to rise above the noise, and in Magic Ball 2’s case, the game delivers. There are plenty of brick breaker-type games in the iTunes store, but MB2 brings a new and somewhat refreshing take to the category. From the developers of Treasures of Montezuma, the game is offers eye candy with a good amount of challenge and fun. The controls can be quirky, but after some practice, you’ll be a master of this domain. With 100 levels each unique in design and obstacles, MB2 offers a lot of tilt-based gameplay within a 3D environment. The first thing you notice is the high-energy soundtrack that really adds to the feel of MB2 along with the colorful menus and fun looking graphics. Let’s put it this way, you have penguins, sheep, and moose all in one game and it works. In typical brick breaker fashion, your objective is to use your paddle to bounce balls off of blocks. The difference with MB2 is that the blocks are part of a 3D structure which can be buildings, towers, rocket ships, just about anything you can imagine. Another difference is that you’re simply clearing the board…most of the time you don’t need to even clear the board. Your task is to locate the medal which can only be done by destroying blocks. Once you secure the medal, you progress to the next level. To launch a ball, you have to shake your device which may not appeal to some, but it certainly detract from the gameplay. MB2 offers a load of powerups and weapons, which are as colorfully unique as the environments. Some of these include Simpleball (literally a ball with a propeller), Smashing Ball (a ball with spikes) Yo-Yo (which ties a string from the ball to the paddle). Activated by shaking the device, you also have weapons including Bazooka, Machine Gun, and Cannon, which allow you fire missiles at blocks and structures. Of course, these are only temporary, and a little timer appears that shows how long the powerup and weapon are effective. It’s a lot easier than looking a status bar shrink down. These powerups and weapons appear after hitting blocks and will travel in cases waddle towards you. It can either be distracting or fun to watch. As I mentioned, you control your paddle via tilt, and there is a slight learning curve since it can somewhat sensitive. Other basics include a save game function as well as the option to turn off the soundtrack and sound effects. The devs should consider adding sensitivity for the tilt as well an option for touch controls which would broaden the appeal. Global online scores would be a nice addition as well. If you’re in the brick breaker games or just looking for a new casual, yet visually great looking game, MB2 is worth a look. The devs obviously have a creative streak as they’ve shown with Treasures of Montezuma and now with MB2. I hope people give this a try and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Painful Controls
OpusRedX

I take a 45 minute train ride to and from work, during which I like to play a game but trying to use the tilt controls on this game while riding a full train that is swinging back and forth is painful and frustrating. Even when I’m not on the train I find the controls slow and inaccurate. Please add the option to enable finger slide controls!

Nice game~!!!

But ould be better if it has a touch control function instead of the tilt function

More levels
Poopy head man

Needs more than 101 levels

UPDATED REVIEW - Previous 2 stars to 5 stars
Coloursound

This is a clear cut case of a developer making the famous poor decision: Forcing the player to use poor control peripherals JUST because they are there, no matter how poor they operate. Alawar, SURE the ipod touch has an Accelerometer. It can tilt and shake but this by NO means qualifies it as the right control method. In fact, most of the time, if not done very carefuly, it outright blows. Let's not forget that the iphone has a touch screen and that the touch-swipe has proven to be the strongest AND most accurate method. Magic Ball 2 has some really cool ideas, but the entire experience is ruined by the controls that are forced on the player. In fact, it is NOT even a case of 'once I get used to it'. I have been playing video games for over 30 years, and I have purchased over 400 games for my ipod touch, and there is NEVER any getting used to crap control on a video game. My suggestion is to ADD touch-swipe control, and do NOT make me shake the darn thing to engage the ball flight (this was even dumber than the tilt control!) (by adding touch-swipe control, the developer doesn't have to replace the controls and admit they were wrong, they can ADD control options to help those of us who don't like the current control scheme, which appears to be a crowd growing in number) I promise to raise the review score once these two things are fixed. (Swipe - touch control for moving and for launching the ball) In the current state, I have to deem this title Un-playable and I must recommend against it, even if the price drops. Wait for a control update. UPDATE Well, Alawar listened to everyone about the poor controls and added 2 more options. One of them is EXACTLY what I wanted...to a tee!!! The one I am refering to - You control the 'paddle' by touching it directly with your finger (or above it) and move it back and forth to control it. They even improved the method of launching the special item, which before was by shaking the device (awful) - Now, you touch the paddle to do it. You have to play it with the new controls to believe it - This game is now VERY intuitive and a lot of fun. I Love the music, graphics, (now) gameplay, etc. I am a man of my word, and as I promised, I am now raising the review. I wish more people would do this when they say they would to help developers that listen. Five big stars to a great developer!!! (Anyway of making another Magic Ball closer to the PS3 version? - even if it's for the PSP?)

Nice slower paced Break Out
Zztfox

Nice game, if a bit slow. Great controls, inventive power ups, a ton of levels! Also saves your place afterevery round, just be sure to create a profile.
