I like the pictures and the reinforcers on this app. The students LOVE the animations! I think it's a great app for kids to use on their own.

nice sentence structure building app
Susan Tiner

This app combines the concept of one BEST sentence with the added challenge of it being grammatically correct. A child might choose a reasonable alternative sentence for the scene that would also be correct, but there is only one choice that is grammatically correct, so your child has to look at the grammatical elements that can be combined to make a correct sentence that fits the scene. Very nice.

The iPad has certainly opened up a whole new world for developers, but more importantly it has allowed creative parents to find ways to encourage experiential learning in a positively addictive way. Sentence builder is a supportive, nurturing education application that allow kids to practice both critical reasoning and sentence completion while having fun. Learning is the most powerful when kids are not afraid to fail and they can master concepts by trial and error. This application excels at providing this environment for the kids. Sentence builder has great visuals. It has interactive sound. It has a calm voice. It has large buttons that can be easily understand and used by kids. Finally, it has an intuitive, non-complicated interface. Buy it for your kids at home, or if you are teacher, buy it for the kids in your classroom!

Amazing!

Sentence Builder is an amazing tool for my high functioning son with autism and neuromuscular disease. We have been searching for a way for him to show sentence structure because he is unable to write legibly. At a recent IEP we were brainstorming ways to have him prove his abilites. Sentence Builder not only shows his skill level but allows him to build new skills! We are so excited.

Great way to work on sentence building in speech therapy!

I use this app in my speech therapy practice. It is most appropriate for kids- but adults with aphasia also find it helpful. The colorful pictures are very engaging. Many individuals need work on written sentence formulation, but can't write or legibility is a big problem. This app is a wonderful way to get around those issues and focus on grammar and the connector words. I often expand on the app and encourage the kids or adults I am helping to say the final selection aloud and perhaps then generate another sentence or two to describe the picture or answer a question. It all depends on the therapy goals. If we are working on typing or handwriting sometimes I have them try to write the sentence again from memory. What a great value for only $3.99. The kids I have used this app with love it and often then willingly practice learning the new skills on their own:) I also appreciate the fact that the developer of this app is very responsive to my suggestions for ways that this app can be improved.

Good app, needs a few things

I teach elementary students with autism and have tried this app with several of them. I like the general idea. It's great practice for building sentences. Right now there are several words that the students must choose. If one of those words are wrong it prompts them to keep trying. It would be helpful if the correct or incorrect words were identified in some way so the students would know which word to fix. Another problem I see is that it asks for the students name at the beginning but it doesn't keep data based on this name. It just is a total for all the times the app is used until the data is reset. I would like to track the progress of different students. That would make this app even better!

Great but could be better

I bought this app for my 7 hr old daughter who is deaf. She absolutely loves it but when the visual reinforcement isn't there're she doesn't know that she got the answer right. This could be an invaluable tool for helping deaf children comprise their English skills but if they can't hear the praise they won't know it's right. Would love it where you cold select whether it's a visual reinforcer or auditory or both. I've shown it to several other deaf ed teacher and they saw the value if it had more visual reinforcers.

Not good for primary grades
Lachel's

I was hoping there was an audio option. I teach first grade and it would be much better if my kids could tap on the words or parts of the sentence as they were building it and hear it. Please think about adding this feature! It would make this app so much more useful for the primary grades. I would give this app five stars if the change was made! Thanks

Much needed app for speech therapy
Nia / SLP

As a Speech-Language Pathologist it has been difficult to find apps that actually works on language concepts. For the past two months I have been using the mobile education applications, sentence builder, story builder and question builder. These apps have helped my students work on multiple concepts such as story sequencing, sentence formation, grammar, answering “wh” questions and even articulation. Since these apps allowed the students to record their responses, I’ve incorporated language and speech goals into one lesson. I can have my artic students monitor for correct speech production, and my language students monitor their grammar. The best part about it is that the students are allowed to play back the stories or the sentences and we discuss the errors they made. It always becomes a teachable moment. My favorite part of the sentence builder and question builder apps is the data collection. The apps allow you to choose the level of prompting for each student allowing me to cater to each student’s individual needs. One of my students was so excited about sentence builder that his parents called me to get the name so that they could purchase it. Overall, these are great apps to use with children with language delays and have been extremely useful for my students with Autism. The immediate reinforcement the students receive after answering questions really helped them to stay focused. I would recommend these apps to any educator. Not worth $3.99.

Agh! These same animals again! I saw these same clip art animations in the "If You're Happy" song app. They're too large for the quality, not a consistent style, and to be honest, a little creepy! The background art is just terrible!!! Sorry, but I get so frustrated when people spend the time and money to make these apps and don't seem to try. Why would you charge $3.99 when you don't seem to have spent that on the art?? Also, while the concept is good, the sentences are a little too small to see, even on an iPad. The ONLY reason I gave this 2 stars is because I appreciate that something like this is available. PLEASE put some effort into it, though!!!
