Lost tides - found a fan

Beware - in the beginning there is a storm that features lighting which means lots of flashing lights. May cause migraine (it did for me but story was interesting enough that I played through it although with frequent breaks) Now the good news. So far great story, save your brother, parents and cruise ship lost at sea for 20 years then mysteriously reappears. Task indicated transporting map (found along with journal under menu button bottom left), labeled inventory, original HO (morphing objects in HO scenes) and you collect sea shells in every scene. Custom difficulty available.

A great game from my favorite developer. As a young girl, you are vacationing with your family on board the cruise ship, Everlast. During a terrible storm, your father makes you and your brother get into a lifeboat while he tries to save your mother; but they both magically disappear along with the ship. Now 20 years later, your father's compass starts to glow; and unbelievably so, the Everlast reappears out of nowhere. Also, who is this mermaid with the hauntingly beautiful singing voice? You get to use your compass amulet to dispel energy to clear and explore certain areas throughout your journey. I love the music in this game, with some parts consisting of symphonic overtones leading to crescendos to add suspense. The graphics are beautiful and clear with emphasis on darker colors, such as shades of blue and gray. The voiceovers are not well done since the lips do not move. Some of the acting is comical; when you let your brother know that the Everlast is back, he casually responds, "That's wonderful! Do you think mom and dad are alive"? I mean, come on! Be a little more shocked! There are four modes of difficulty including the option to customize your settings. I had an uncharacteristic minor tapping penalty in custom settings. The inventory is labeled and does require assembly of items. The map has fast teleport and shows objectives but not available actions; another uncharacteristic aspect for custom settings. The scenes are labeled between locations, and transition has been smooth and quick. There is a journal, which actually consists mainly of objectives along with minor snippets of info on the story; it's not a traditional one and lacks enough reading material as you progress. There is also a back button, which is very appreciated. The HOS are varied and fun. Some types are word lists, in which you collect parts to complete a full object and "finding matching pairs of items" with some twists. There was a very innovative, unique, and almost puzzle oriented type where you use blueprints to assemble gliding gears in multiple parts with numerous procedures. That's creativity! The puzzles were interesting as well. An example was a typical one from this developer where you find a scroll and a storybook puzzle initiates with narration; and you solve minor puzzles, such as rotating and moving tiles to assemble an image. You are collecting well-hidden seashells in the locations, as well as morphing objects in the HOS. You have a seashell indicator to the right of the inventory bar. The extras include a collectibles hunt, achievements, and a Forgotten Treasure HOS. One minor, negative aspect from this developer is that the map, journal, etc., are always located through the menu. It's a nuisance to have to complete several steps to access these functions. Other than that, and maybe a less than par map lacking available actions, I have no complaints. Great creativity and implementation of advanced game mechanics make this game a hot ticket!

Really bummed out!

I was SO excited to see an unfamiliar offering after so many recent repeats on Big Fish. I happily bought and downloaded Rite of Passage and after the first few minutes, thought that I could settle in and enjoy this game. Alas...the very first time that I had to use the special compass, which I believe is a huge part of the game, it crashed. Tried again 3 more times with same result. Hope this can be fixed because this game looks very promising!

Good game

Good game so far, exactly what I look for in a HO game

If this game was free, it would cost too much. There are some parts that were okay, but unfortunately I was lost most of the time. There is no map, and some times you knew by what you got where it would go but most of the time there was no idea where to go next. The clues don't really tell you what to do and then you have to wait until they fill up.

Seriously, just WOW! I have never played a game by this developer, but I can't wait to find more! This is truly one of the best Big Fish games ever. I'm not going to dissect this game because I just don't think it's needed. Just know that it is an awesomely fun and definitely not just the same old, same old type of HO adventure. No regrets!!

ok, but...

not very far in and it's ok. main issues: you have to double tap to do anything, which slows down gameplay and it takes a LONG time to load the next page.

Maybe All Is Not Lost in Lost Tides!

Rites of Passage: The Lost Tides starts with a storm, and then gets spookier. Mad Head Games are usually well-done, as is this one. Beautiful art work and story, with Map and Journal. Love the Seashells in every scene, and the Morphing Objects in the Hidden Object games. However, I am deducting one point for the lack of a Skip button, such as in the Wake the Elf with Mirrors game. If there is that function, it is not labeled as such. Sometimes I just want to hop to the next puzzle, particularly after midnight! Watch out for that sneaky Evil Mermaid!

Great game. Works perfectly. If you are having problems playing like I did. I had to many games on my iPad. It kept crashing and it was doing weird stuff. I deleted a few games I don't play and restarted the iPad. Works perfectly. You can always go to your purchases in your settings and reinstall if you want to play again. A great game BF.
