Why I scored it so low.

I bought my pilot three years ago,with the hopes of conversing with all my Vietnamese friends.But,to this date,I have not been able to use it to translate Vietnamese.Although I was told in the beginning that the Vietnamese Language will be included.
Requires TWO phones to work

Pilot earbuds would be worth it, if they could get both earbuds to work from one smartphone. In their original Kickstarter, you received two earbuds and one app. One bud for you and one for the other person. The app on your phone would link the two buds into one conversation . What actually ships is still two buds, but this app can only run one. You then have to convince the other person to download the app, Bluetooth pair their phone with your second bud, and then swap QCR codes to join the conversation. So I am back to google translate and just passing my phone back and forth. Until they can fix this, it is rubbish. Huge disappointment.

Just got it today. Disappointed. It was difficult to even set it up and try it the first time. Will continue playing with it so hopefully will learn how to use it better. Also another con is the 2nd person needs to download an app, log in, Bluetooth pair the other ear piece....by that time I'd be half way done with my appointments. Hopefully bugs are fixed and this gets better. I'll update my review then

Got it yesterday - tried it today with my wife’s family - all are native Korean speakers. Translation is not even close - tried the two different modes. No change. Terrible. Very disappointing.

I think they’re very good. The comfort of the earpiece is good and stays in the ear. I was worried they would easily fall out. The translation (although I had to repeat a couple times) was good in several different languages that I tried. You have to speak slow and clear but it picks it up. I think it will never be perfect due to changes in people’s dialect. Even in the US many people speak English differently and require people to slow their speech down or to be more concise. I hope they fix it but I think it will take time to get slang and accent translated perfectly. I look forward to the updates. As for the device, it was easily paired to my phone. I don’t care for the fact that the earpiece will just turnoff on its own. I assume it’s to save battery but if I’m in the middle of a conversation I don’t want it to just turn off and have to keep turning it on or re-pairing it. Overall I’m happy with the product and the fact that they delivered. Definitely some tweaks to be made but good work!

I planned to use this for travel but to use the ear pieces, both people need to have the app on their phone. So I somehow have to convince each stranger I want to speak with to download an app and pair one of the ear pieces to their phone without actually being able to speak their language?! This entirely defeats the purpose. It should function with the app on one phone. It completely useless like this. And when I tried it with my friend speaking German (and I was speaking English) it only heard every other word of German. Plus it took 3 tries to get it sorted which ear piece was connected to each phone/language. I was an early supporter during crowd-funding and I’m completely disappointed at what was delivered vs what was advertised.

What a rip off. I feel misled. You need two phones and both have to have the app running. Plus the just listen mode is horrible. Most of the time it picks up nothing and when it does finally get a word it’s usually wrong. The person you are listening to would have to speak extremely slow and deliberately. I want a refund this is a terrible product.
