Doesn’t regularly load threads on iOS

Tommyddd

The website always works. This app seems like a 1 in 10 that all the messages in a thread will display. That is the fundamental feature of the app and it doesn’t work well.

Poorly laid out interface

Do not recommend for any type of class as it not straightforward and is looking to overload you with information, most of which you don’t want to be bothered with.

Piazza is a great tool but a terrible app

erwang01

Let me preface this review with my love for Piazza as a website. I would give it a solid 4/5 for its web interface. It’s a great educational tool and I love it. That being said, it has some issues like failing to scale well causing long loading times especially for latex renderings and what not. Issues like these happen on both the web interface and the app but is much more pronounced in the app, making long threads unusable. Now for some App specific problems: - @post_id tags don’t work. They keep erroring out with a invalid CID warning when you try to go to the linked post. - Leaving the app (putting it in the background) and coming back to it causes the post you are looking at to change (it even changes the class you are looking at sometimes!). This is particularly annoying as good answers require you to reference outside materials and what not. Copying in text and links naturally ask you to put the app in the background which then requires you to navigate back to the right post. - anonymous <thing> is what they see in web view. This is useful when multiple people comment anonymously. However, on the app there’s no <thing> so you can’t distinguish who is who. Moreover it gets confusing when people say anon <thing> is correct. But then which post was from <thing> instead of <thing2>? Anyways, good platform for education but bad iOS app implementation. I hope it can be improved in the near future!

Just use a listserve?

Eveg

I used to really like piazza until I took a class where we just used an email list serve. It’s so much easier to just read conversations in your email app, and it makes them easier to archive and organize as well.

Ugly UI

This is probably the ugliest app I’ve ever used.

Good, but slow

I’m generally a fan of Piazza. The website has come a long way; I appreciate the editing options as well as the LaTeX & code support. Unfortunately, the mobile experience lags behind. My biggest issue is the slow load times; I’m waiting 10+ seconds on a 2020 phone for threads that open instantly on the mobile website. I can excuse a sub-par editing experience, but I expect the reading experience to be top-notch.

Not very helpful for instructors

Sueinmon

I’m a professor- I find myself having to open Piazza in my browser instead of this app in order to get all the functionality that I’d like. I suppose if all you wanted was to read posts on Piazza, this app would be ok. But even basic things like finding unread posts is much easier on the browser of my iPad than this app

Not helpful for Instructors

I see indication of new messages on app icon but can’t see or interact w/ these messages from inside app. Without reliable functionality, this app is useless for me and is leading to me leaving piazza as a tool.
