I particularly like several features of this app: (1) the ability to design multiple named color palettes allows you to experiment with different schemes for each situation, mixing and matching. (2) the ability to not only do triadic, complementary, etc., but to do your own custom intermediate blends. (3) the way the color edit slider bars show you (with color gradients above the pointer) just how the color will change as you make adjustments. (4) nicely integrated help system with hyperlinks. The developer is also very responsive to ideas for suggested and improved features. I asked for a full screen color preview mode and Rick added it on the next revision. (Hold your finger down on a palette color for 2 seconds and it will come up full screen.)
I first bought ColorSutra when it came out. Realised that ColorSutra cannot be used for serious design work that Palettes could provide. The versatility and the ability to develop the various color schemes easily really attract me. It would be good if Palettes allow direct email/export of Palettes for use in Photoshop or Illlustrator.
This is a great application if you need to know immediately what the color values are for a website or a graphic! Makes it much easier for me than manually trying to figure this out. I'd pay more for this!
This app. Is amazing!! Its like having a Colormunki on your phone. I would definatly have paid more for this. I'm a graphic designer and I use this almost every day. The only thing I would like to see in the future is the ability to import the palettes into adobes creative suite. Other than that it's awesome, thank you Rick Maddy!
And yes I did restart my iPhone. I love this app!! But since the update it will not save anything!! :(
I have to say, there are not many iPhone apps out there for designers, but this one is awesome! How many times have you been out somewhere and see something that you would love to base a color scheme on? With Palettes you can take photo and make a 25-color palette out of it, email it to yourself (or anyone)—even in Photoshop and Illustrator swatch formats! Or maybe you want to pull the hex colors from a website—Palettes reads the code. Love it! Before I wrote this review I wanted to test it to see how accurate it was. So I pulled the original photos into Photoshop to compare the palettes exported with what colors were in the image, and I was very impressed. I'm going to assume that will sample the top 25 dominant colors in an image, which is something to keep in mind when photographing. Make sure you get a lot of the colors you are looking for in the image. The only thing I would change is the 3-D outlines on the color display. Maybe change that to just a gray outline or give the user the option to turn them off.
I use the pms colors all the time....pls add! Love the tool!
Truly awesome app that does every thing as stated in the description. Very very handy thing to be able to carry around with me. I was really excited about the update which allows palettes to be exported to Illustrator, etc. The developer has also been extremely helpful in answering questions that I had. Five stars!
this app is the perfect tool for inspiration. i find myself using on a near daily basis at work. the interface is easy to use and the features are awesome... especially the ability to backup the palettes and the emailing of them. can't wait to see what else they add to it!
