Oxford Bus Company’s free app allows you to buy tickets for city, park and ride, X90, the airline and Thames Travel Services.
Key features on our free app:
• Buy tickets in the app to use immediately, or save for later – you can gift mobile tickets to other people. Payments are made securely with your credit or debit card, as well as Paypal.
• Plan a journey on our network and it will show valid journeys which includes our buses and the relevant ticket that matches that journey.
• Real time departure boards
• View your bus on a map and track the next stop on your journey
I downloaded this app and purchased a ticket. The app only works intermittently. Sometimes I can use my tickets flawlessly, other times it will open but take over 10 minutes to load and access my tickets. This means sometimes I have to buy a ticket to get on the bus even when I have a prepaid ticket in the app.
You can only activate your ticket within 10 minutes of getting on the bus. If the bus is late, what then? And, if you wait until you’re in the queue to get on the bus, you actually end up taking more time than if you were just to buy a ticket. Plus, if there are two of you, you can only activate one ticket and then you need to wait 10 minutes to activate the second ticket. My advice for everyone is to just pay when you board the bus. There is NO BENEFIT to buying your ticket in advance. It only causes grief.
I am trying to look up a trip from Oxford to Heathrow and I keep getting the message “No journeys found.” This is idiotic. Also, the 10 minute limitation on using the ticket is annoying. It induced anxiety for no good reason. You can simply purchase a ticket on board - not clear what the benefit of this app is.
This app simply doesn’t work. I cannot even get a simple timetable. It is the worst app I have ever used! People don’t have time to mess around getting such a bad ap to work!
I have been using this app for a couple of years and it is always questionable if it will work. It is convenient to buy the multi-ride pass and airport returns but today for instance it allowed me to activate the pass but would not provide the barcode to scan. I updated the app assuming that was the bug that needed to be fixed but this did not work. Eventually I lost two ride passes on my phone and still had to pay in cash. Often the app works fine but when it fails it really fails and I’m not sure the periodic convenience is worth the random frustration.
Crashes often, sometimes right when I need to show the ticket. Payments don’t work half of the time.
I just tried to use the app... Heathrow to Oxford... can’t do it. As quick as I installed it... I deleted it!
