Wantmymoneyback!!!

I have 9 Spanish Apps in my iPhone. This is the very best I've used! I just bought the iSpeak French by Future Apps for my granddaughter based on my experience with the Spanish version. I also bought the French version for myself so I can attempt to communicate with my grand in French while she' taking it in school.

Luv it

I bought this app for my 12 year old daughter.......she ADDICTED to it! U can't get her off of it. She now walking around the house and is speaking Spanish. SHE lOVES THIS APP

Great App. Needs One Update
slapatmoo

Great App but some words in Spain are different than Mexico. An update to translate to Mexico Spanish would make it PERFECT.

Disappointed
Luvnsnow

I bought this app to help me communicate with my co-workers, it isn't correct sentence structure. The sentences are not structured correctly but the words are mostly correct. I showed it to my Spanish speaking co-workers and they said the sentences were 8 out of 10 times incorrect, waste of $2.

Fantabulous

This is so useful, so fast, great pronunciation help!

Great app!

Pretty awesome app for the price! Very handy to have. It helps if you have a bit of Spanish language background already. Great features, best I've seen so far.

OK , but voice mispronounces everything
Bangs Family

Tested on an iPad with iOS 4.1 Pretty good, but the voice is terrible. "Esposa" is pronounced "Esposai." "Vivir" is pronounced with a click humans don't make. Some basic sentences change meaning completely when translated back and forth. Drink soda became obtain soda. Huge distortions. I also have iTranslate, which is similar but handles many languages. It actually does a much nicer job, especially with pronunciation accuracy.

Neat!

Really cool app!

Very useful ... Have reasonable expectations

I decided to review this app by picking prose samples out of newspapers, the New York Times for English and El País (Madrid) for Spanish. Since I already use free online translators a lot, I knew what to expect. Such software does a very good job going from English to Spanish, although the result always sounds stilted in Spanish. English is an easy language to translate from, and that’s one reason why it’s becoming the lingua franca. One difficulty that all translation engines have is that English has a tendency to string a lot of adjectives together, so that the order in which they modify one another becomes ambiguous. English also has many complex compounds and words with several meanings or connotations. The results of machine translators are not nearly as good in the other direction. That may be because of an economic fact ... programmers have a better incentive to master and perfect the language tools for English because most of the world’s information is in English and needs to be translated to other languages. There is not nearly as strong an economic incentive to make machine translation work well in the other direction. Here is an original text in SPANISH: Tres ideas: nosotros a nuestro ritmo; cambios sí, pero solo los necesarios para hacer sostenible el socialismo en "este momento histórico"; y nada de dejarse llevar por "precipitaciones" ni "presiones externas", mucho menos por agendas y "campañas de la prensa extranjera". Los mensajes del 57º aniversario del asalto al cuartel Moncada, la fecha revolucionaria más importante de Cuba, fueron bastante claros. Otras cosas quedaron más difusas en la ciudad de Santa Clara, sede del acto político. iSpeak’s version in ENGLISH: Three ideas: we at our own pace, changes yes, but only those needed for sustainable socialism in "historic moment" and nothing to get carried away by "precipitation" or "external pressure", much less for agendas and "campaigns the foreign press. " The messages of the 57th anniversary of the Moncada assault, the most important date revolutionary Cuba, were quite clear. Other things became more diffuse in the city of Santa Clara, home of political act. Here is my translation: Three ideas: We at our own pace ... changes yes, but only those that are necessary to maintain socialism in this historic moment. And not to allow ourselves to get carried away with “haste” or “external pressure,” much less by the agenda of the foreign press in its campaigns against us. The messages delivered at the 57th anniversary of the assault on the Moncada Quarter, Cuba's most important revolutionary holiday, were quite clear. But other issues were still vague in the city of Santa Clara, the site of that political act. The original Spanish attempts to paraphrase a turgid
political speech. I’ve taken license with punctuation and clarified the reference of some modifiers to make it read better. The machine translation is garbled, but I still read it and get it. Here is an original text in ENGLISH: If the findings of existing clinical trials hold up in future research, the potential consequences of this deficiency are likely to go far beyond inadequate bone development and excessive bone loss that can result in falls and fractures. Every tissue in the body, including the brain, heart, muscles and immune system, has receptors for vitamin D, meaning that this nutrient is needed at proper levels for these tissues to function well. iSpeak’s version in SPANISH: Si los resultados de los ensayos clínicos existentes soportan en investigaciones futuras, las posibles consecuencias de esta deficiencia es probable que van mucho más allá del desarrollo ósea inadecuada y la pérdida ósea excesiva que puede dar lugar a caídas y fracturas. Cada tejido del cuerpo, incluyendo el cerebro, corazón, músculos y sistema inmune, tiene receptores para la vitamina D, lo que significa que este nutriente se necesita en los niveles adecuados de estos tejidos para funcionar bien. I have no trouble reading iSpeak's Spanish, but let me try to improve it a bit. Like other machine translation engines, iSpeak dumbs down the Spanish translation, usually omitting elegant features of Spanish such as the subjunctive. Spanish also offers much greater freedom of word order than
English, a feature which good writers use to great effect. Have reasonable expectations. This program has an easy interface, and it performs a difficult task very rapidly, returning results in at most a few seconds. It costs very little for what it can do. It won’t be your prose stylist for you, but at almost any level, it can help you communicate. Of course it requires you to connect with a central server! The iPad's processor is optimized for graphics, not data retrieval. A translator on your own iPad
would use up an unreasonable amount of its precious memory, and take many hours to download.
