The app uses the best algorithm to calculate the position of Pole Star. The overall accuracy of the algorithm has reached sub 0.1 arc-seconds now.
The app now using a 10 minute marker reticle, the same reticle used in the polar scope of iOptron(R) telescope mount since 2014.
A must have for iOptron(R) SkyTracker and SkyGuider users!
Also very helpful for any iOptron(R) telescope mount owners. It may also be used with other brand telescope/camera mounts with similar polar scope reticle.
No human interaction required when iOS devices can using location service normally.
iPad users can now manually enter the location when location service is unavailable.
NOTE: Currently (2016/03/24), This app has better accuracy than iOptron Commander and iOptron 8407/8408 hand controller. iOptron Commander and iOptron 8407/8408 hand controller will be updated to the identical algorithm as this app in a future release.
It tells you where Polaris is located for your current time and location. But with no options or way to configure the display (other than English / Chinese). Other apps do this as well but with plenty of options for customization. It might be OK if it were free, but it is dismal at $1.99.
I feel ripped-off! I’m in the southern hemisphere and can’t figure out how to use the darn thing to find sigma-oct! Piece of junk!!
The elevation is in metric not much help in the USA. If it can be converted to Chinese why not USA measurements? I’m not knocking metric but I’ve spent 60 years using feet ,miles and Fahrenheit. So only half of this app is of any use for me. It’s only good for alignment I should have paid better attention and not assumed it was for the US market. I can use it but I won’t have a clue about my elevation.
Purchased and no instructions or troubleshooting guide. Couldn’t even figure out how to contact the developer. I can’t even give it a rating...I guess I’ll have to buy ZWO...
Works perfectly every time! This app get my polar aligned perfectly and keeps the stars pin pointed and without any star trails
If I haven’t used it for awhile I forget how great an app it really is. Simple, accurate, and easy. That’s what I want when out in the dark. ;) Thanks!!
First, the position of Polaris is 5 arcminutes too low. (If the app says 39', the actual position is 44'.) Second, there are no settings to change meters to feet or degrees C to degrees F. I intend to get a refund.
Very nice app for iOtpron EQ mount owners, it would be nicer is the date actually worked correctly? The date is a year off...the month is off by a month..and the day is off. The actual info on Polaris seems to be correct.
I second the 2boldlygo rating - It says this app is good for the itouch, but the itouch doesn't have gps capability (at least not when wifi is turned off). This app should provide the ability to input your lat/long location and it does not.
