Immediately Defective

Literally couldn’t even set up the hub without the app malfunctioning and failing to connect.

Seriously?

This app is the worst. It has become such a pain in the butt to use my remote and hub. All I want is to use the actual remote, not this stupid app. The older remotes you can do all the programming through your computer and the commands then upload to the respective device. Not anymore. Welcome to the future! You are forced to program everything via the app which never seems to be able to connect to the hub so I am now just using all the remotes I was hoping to put in a drawer. Run away as fast as you can unless you enjoy punching things in anger.

Waste of time

This is a horrible user experience! So buggy, it’s almost unusable. Harmony you should have your act together by now!

Better than Rated

I rarely rate apps, but I felt compelled to rate this app due to the low ratings it has received. I first need to clarify that I cannot comment on how well this app works with home automation; I have only set it up and used it for control of my entertainment center. For the entertainment center automation, this app deserves higher than a 2.2. I run cable, Apple TV, FireTV, and PlayStation through a 7.1 AV Receiver that connects to a Sony TV. Needless to say, while it’s not the most sophisticated home entertainment set up, there’s a bunch of devices going on there that work on a number of platforms; so, it’s not the simplest either. Thus, I think my setup is a good example of the quality of the product. Initially setting up the Harmony hub is straight forward plug and play. The app is definitely where things get a little trickier. I won’t lie, the app can be a little finicky when setting things up. The sync times and connection times can be a little lengthy during the set up and at one point I had to unplug the hub and plug it back in because it froze. Also, a number of the instructions were not perfectly clear, especially when setting up the Amazon FireTV. So there is definitely room for improvement there. Once you get past the initial speed bumps in the set up, however, it runs flawlessly. You add the devices, which is straight forward, then give the devices activities (which devices to turn on and off when you want to watch certain devices). Simple as that. Furthermore, the app/hun appears to be intelligent and knows when a device is already on or needs to be turned on/off when you are switching to it. Therefore, you don’t get the situation where your receiver turns off and cable box on when you switch from the Apple TV to the cable box. All in all, there is some space for improvement. Allowing for connection of more than 8 devices would be good, allowing further automation of AV receivers (specifically being able to adjust the audio setting for certain activities), and clearer instructions/fixing some of the small bugs. However, if you take the time to set this app up, its clear, has a quality interface that communicates well across multiple platforms and works in both iPhone and tablet... which rocks. Again, I cannot speak for home automation, but for a relatively straight forward, but not too basic home entertainment center, this app is great.

Mixed Bag

Finally figured out how to customize the app layouts for each activity. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the button layout can be customized for devices. Also, I can’t get a sequence to run which runs perfectly when initiated from the remote.

Harmony Continues it’s Stagnation and Decline

It’s amazing that over the last 15 years the Harmony remote software does nothing more now than it did then. In fact, with the push to make it “idiot proof” Logitech has actually reduced its functionality! There is much less that you can customize and things like trying to send keyboard patterns to your computer via the Bluetooth keyboard emulator is still as useless as it was in 2014 where you have to select the keys from a list rather than map from- dare I say it- the keyboard from IOS! It’s ludicrously bad. The “soft” menus from the Elite remote still don’t map to the software and it’s still nearly impossible to program a custom device whether it be controlled by IR or over the network. It’s embarrassing. Forget about new home automation features like Shortcuts in iOS. There is still no support. Controls for other smart home functions is just as abysmal as it was when the Elite remote was released over 5 years ago. What’s amazing is that why Logitech has sat on its laurels with Harmony that no other company has come up and eaten their lunch. It would not be hard to do. It would only have to be mediocre and it would be superior software. The sad part is that the physical remote and command repeater/emitter is a nice, aside from it being pretty slow, but programming it is still horrible, not that you can program it to do much outside of the standard set of controls you’d use because everyone is the same right? ? Get it together, Logitech! This software was bad when it was released over 5 years ago and I cannot see a single feature improvement to it since then.

Crashing a lot!

HomeKit

So far only a few issues setting up. Would really like it if it was HomeKit friendly. I prefer not to use Alexa.

Desperately seeking a remote that works

ClevelandBrian

Like others have said in their reviews, I have to unplug/reset the hub a couple times each day in order for the app to find the hub. “This could take up to a minute” on the app turns into 10 before I reset everything. I also need to hard restart the app because it stalls out. The app is much more limited to problem solving when issues do arise with your components than the Harmony 650 remote. Looks like I’ll need to go back to that dinosaur of a remote. We can send folks to outer space but there is no good universal remote control on the market in this day and age. Try harder, Logitech.
