Return to the classic medieval tale of magic, monsters and friendship with FINAL FANTASY V!
Twenty years after the original FINAL FANTASY V released in Japan, the classic RPG has found its way to mobile devices!
Embark on an epic adventure as four heroes driven together by fate: Bartz and his chocobo companion, Princess Lenna of Castle Tycoon, the mysterious Galuf, and the pirate captain Faris. The crystals that bring peace and prosperity to the world – earth, water, fire, and wind – have lost their power and are on the verge of destruction.
•Customize characters with an unprecedented degree of freedom with the job and ability system – 26 unique job classes!
•Veteran character designer Kazuko Shibuya has returned to recreate the characters and graphics for a completely enhanced mobile experience!
•Touch-screen controls and active-time battle system are optimized for fluid combat on mobile devices
•This new version also includes “The Sealed Temple” from the 2006 release, as well as the Tetsuya Nomura-designed optional boss Enuo, and an extraordinary soundtrack
•Game Center support and plenty of achievements to be earned.
My plan was to play through ff1-9 having only ever played 7 when it first came out. Ff5 was the first of the series I couldn’t finish. The story was lame, the characters and bosses were even lamer. I loved 1 thru 4, but 5 played like a 13 year old fan made made it. Btw I put as much effort into this review as I feel ff5’s creators put into the story.
I like FFV. It probably has the most play time of all the iOS ports. I don’t mind the controls. I love the job system. I have two complaints: The new character sprites look nothing like the Amano portraits. There are no shadows under the character sprites, so the characters look ungrounded. Even simple black ovals at the feet would do.
The game is excellent, like the rest of the console Final Fantasy games. However, this version has several annoyances that affect game play, such as prompting to sign into Game Center every time it starts or between app switches (I don't want to sign in, and it has no matchmaking anyway.) When I did sign in, I got bombarded with "achievements" which I could frankly have done without. It doesn't help with story immersion. The positioning of the buttons in battle is also not very comfortable.
Great characters, story, and art. But please add support for iPhone XS Max, the game does not go full screen properly and it just looks lazy on this device.
Final Fantasy V is a great game, the graphics look clean and sharp. But I am disappointed with the music, it loops back to the beginning every time a random battle occurs. This did not happened in Final Fantasy Anthology for the PlayStation 1. The character sprites also could have been better.
Terrific port. Not the best FF story, but the bonkers job system makes up for it. Only gripe is that the game does not fill the screen on newer devices like iPad Pro or iPhone XS Max.
Unfortunately, the game is near-unplayable because it crashes every time the app is exited and reopened.
sweeet! now I can go back and forth between my iPad and my iPhone!
Great rpg, best touch interface of any ff for iOS. cloud saving is awesome.
