Reviews

My favorite Game
DBernath

I have played many a game on multiple game systems since the early 90s, and I have spent more time with this game than any other. The story is intriguing and the gameplay is excellent. If you like strategy RPGs, you will love this game.

Having problems with the touch... and it’s not my ipad

After playing the original FFT over 20 years ago, it is so nice to go through the experience again on the iPad. There’s a level of depth in this game that was rare with console RPGs, while being an accessible game. Mature storylines, deep job structures, fun optimizations. I find it easy to pick up on this medium and find the port to have been adapted very well here. Thank you for helping relive these memories!

Have to pay twice
Tevans357

I purchased this on an iPad.... unfortunately my iPad is older, but more frustrating than that, the touch interface is highly inefficient with a larger screen. I want to play this on the iPhone.... an app that I paid quite a bit of money for, but to do so would require another $13. Extremely unhappy. If 0 stars were an option....

Apple TV and Mifi Support Please
FlyCrizz

I love this game but would like to have an Apple TV port and controller support like you all did with Chrono Trigger please!

Game speed x2? Squeenix retardation strikes again!
L33tspock

The game speed was OK in the original, in the psp version the game had a bug that caused all animations to go about half speed. We complained, a fan patch was made. 5 years later a new release on iPad, and you bungle again, this time by making the animations and game speed so fast it is rushed and unnatural, like we are emulating it and frame skipping. Cmon guys, I know you aren't the same team who made the original, I'm glad you released it on iPad, it's playable. It just leads to question if the development team is either incompetent, unable to fix or optimize game speed, or just stupid, i.e., don't know what game speed is enjoyable? Get with it! You guys are less efficient than a Chinese company.

Great game, poor support

I've been playing this version of FFT since it was released. It is, by far the best version of tactics you'll find... when it works. Squeenix has done a poor job of keeping up with iOS updates with all of their games. Any time an update to iOS comes out, you can expect bugs and crashes galore. It's sad. This game, and all the FF titles, deserve better support. It's even more aggravating when you see $1 and $2 games getting updates constantly. Again, great game, but poor support. I really hope this changes soon.

No impli enter save

You play through 1-2 hours of the game before you can save. And if you die you lose 1-2 hours of that time. I wish this $16 dollar game was worth my time.

Great game, lousy touch experience
KeithK3

I’m a Final Fantasy fan, and Tactics was one of my favorites when it first came out for the Playstation. The compelling storyline, great characters, and strategic combat is a winning combination. So, I was really excited to see it come to iOS. My first impression was also really positive. While I loved the original art, the new art is even better; it is simply stunning. However, all this marred by an awful touch interface. Selecting the right square to move to or target is really frustrating. The touch targets are too small, and terrain features and other characters are often in the way of where you need to touch. The screen rotates only in 90 degree intervals, which is annoying when you only want to rotate a couple degrees to get a better view of the squares you are targeting. Likewise, the zoom and vertical rotation are very limited, so often you are unable to find an angle that shows you what you need to see. The net result of this was slowing gameplay down, and really interfered with my enjoyment of the game. This was not so much a problem on the console version, as the cursor moved discretely from square to square. But when moving to touch, they should have changed the controls more to match the new medium. Allowing the screen to rotate freely and supporting smooth pinch to zoom would go a long way to make this game more playable.

One of the greatest games ever made! Even though its a little rough on the iPad

*Update: No sound on iPad Pro Even though this game was not originally made for iPad, I think the developers did a good job making it compatible with the touch screen controls. I've played through this game numerous times and the story and job system still has not been bested by any current game (even the mediocre Tactic Advanced games that tried to hard to change the system). If you can swallow the dated sprite graphics and sometimes troublesome touch screen controls, you can play one of the best games ever made on your iPad. Square Enix, please continue to add some of your classic titles to the iTunes store. Thank you
