DSLR Slate

DSLR Slate is the perfect companion for the DSLR Filmmaker. As a Universal App, DSLR Slate runs natively on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. Designed for all needs from student to hollywood, DSLR Slate will be just as useful as the traditional film slate, if not more. “Slating” shots has become standard practice on set and helps streamline shot logging and post production.

Along with a color chart and selectable running timecode, DSLR Slate has all the traditional items for input such as Scene, Take, Framerate, Director, etc. DLSR Slate also provides unique items aimed specifically for DSLR cameras such as ISO Speed, Aperture, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Lens, Filter, and more. While being invaluable on set, these items also prove useful when shooting tests in varying lighting conditions.

Since there are so many items to show the camera, we’ve come up with a new way of displaying the info. While in SLATE mode, you will see only the traditional items displayed. These items are Scene, Take, Memory Card (Roll), Director, Producer, Project, and Date. Those are the pieces of information that editors use most. Once the camera is rolling, click the START button and a quick burst will begin, flashing all items within about 2 seconds. This allows the camera to “see” each item for at least a few frames, ensuring that all of your information will be captured by the camera. The quick burst is then followed by a Visual/Audio sync and the traditional items will fade back in, ending the slating process.

We have lots of plans for DSLR Slate and the future, so expect updates and new features!

NOTE: 1st and 2nd Gen iPhones & iPod Touches are now officially unsupported. This is due to processor speed and memory limitations. The app will still run on these devices, but not at its optimal performance. If you are using a 1st or 2nd Gen iPhone or iPod Touch, be warned. The issues do not affect iPhone 3GS or later, or the iPad.

INDUSTRY RESPONSE:

VINCENT LAFORET: "It makes slating on set efficient, and ensures that you have all the information you need in post-production."

PHILIP BLOOM: "Excellent DSLR slate for the iPhone and iPad"

STU MASCHWITZ: "The clever 'Quick Burst' display works great!"

MIKE SEYMOUR: "It gives you an enormous amount of information that would otherwise not fit on a slate -- it is terribly helpful."

JASON WINGROVE: "It just looks cool."

Great app that needs work
Marcus DeSade

I really like this app, and recommended it. However, I would love to see the app enhanced so that I can increment numeric fields by swiping over them. That would be so much more efficient than having to manually enter each shot and take from the keyboard.

Fail
superdelightful

App doesn’t not function with iOS 11.SAD!

Finally!
MoreDillon

Finally! A slate made by someone in the film industry. Reasons why this app is fantastic: 1) Utilizes the extra screen space of the iPad, with an iPhone version that is formatted for the smaller screen! (This will do just fine until I can afford an iPad) 2) The fields used are information that should be on a slate. (I can't think of any other information I need) 3) THE FONT IS LEGIBLE AND PROFESSIONAL 4) Timecode & Color Chart & Greyscale 5) Unique items aimed specifically for DSLR cameras (ISO Speed, Aperture, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Lens, Filter, etc) 6) The new slating process is genius! (Flashes all the extra information for the camera in 2 seconds followed by a Visual/Audio sync) This is the only app this company has developed so far, so I expect them to keep it updated and introduce new features down the road. You hit the nail on the head by keeping it simple. Thanks for the decent screenshots, I love this app. $5 to replace a $1,350 piece of outdated technology. Can't wait to use this on set!

Good App
Fabio Cormack

This first version brings good options for the DSLR filmakers. An urgente request should be about the time format display. It could bring the options off DD/MM/YYYY too, for people outside US. Also, this could be improved: Bigger boxes for the reference colors A custom Field:Value would be nice feature More options on clapper sounds Nice app, if you shoot DSLR movies, is a valuable tool on the set.

Great app love it
Liquiddirector

Would like to be able to save diff setting because we switch lenses and instead of retyping would rather bring back entire settings. Can we program our own timecode

Nicely done - Does a great job!

If you're shooting video with a DSLR, this app is must have!!! Easy, Simple and Quick to use!

AMAZING APP
Brian_Ramirez

This is an app any filmmaker needs to keep on their iPad or iPhone! It combines some of the best resources for slating any production. The fact that it has a full grey scale and color chart is amazing. A FIVE DOLLAR APP that replaces something you used to buy for thousands and really didn't need to cost that much. It is very well designed and takes about 30 seconds to learn and navigate. I think that future updates will make this app even better. I would like to see the ability to make the slate display just the grey scale and just the color chart in full screen. Even though the iPad's screen can't be trusted for color correct adjustments for a colorist, it would be a starting point possibly. Great app, can't wait for future versions and future products from this company!

Thank god

I'm so greatful for you software nerds that spend your time making apps like this for people like me. Since I got my 7d I've needed a slate like this to record all the extra info and help me use my hvx as just a audio device. Haha. Great job Chris you are my favorite geek today. I look forward to the updates.

killer app with great feature set
filmbot

About time someone made a app this useful. 1.1 UPDATE is about to go live and this is great for having on set or smaller run and gun set ups. Made by someone working in the film/broadcast industry who understands what we need and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for it. Larger refrence colors or a option to flip to a focus chart or color checker would be great .

CRASH
StBotolph

First version worked great, just downloaded the update = CRASH everytime I hit "open slate".
