Enjoyed but not but the older games were better

I really like the Dark Tales Series. Unfortunately you cannot get the early games in this series anymore. Those were better than the "newer" games. Update the older ones and use those as the formula in the new.

What a disappointment

Was excited to play this since I love the Poe games but I've only just started and I've already had multiple issues with force-closing, lost progress, and the game has the tiniest inventory objects I've ever seen. Will not purchase full version.

Dark Tales: Meh ...
Izzyoc

2.5 stars bumped down to 2 stars Not impressed with this latest ERS offering in the Dark Tales series. Very little character development - I found that I just didn't care about what happened to them. Story was so-so; I actually looked up a synopsis of EAP's Metzengerstein (which was his first published short story) to see what was supposed to happen. ERS took some big liberties with this story, although the feud between the Metzengersteins and the Berlifitzing families is consistent (but without the Romeo and Juliet element added by ERS). I guess the real story would have been too dark (who wants a cruel protagonist?). For a story taking place in Hungary, the characters sound remarkably American (which brings me to wonder: is it better to have no accent versus a bad accent?) Try not to wince as they pronounce Monsieur Dupin! Not much in the way of collectibles - some cards you pick up in sporadic scenes. Customizable mode of play, transportable map. HOG scenes are repeated. Games seem fairly easy (and I was completely turned off by the "follow the trace" exercise). After the demo, it was a pass for me on the game. Not my cup of tea. Upcoming Games: (# stars is average review on BigFishGames.com for the PC or Mac version, date is the day the game was released via Big Fish - usually for PC or Mac) Love Chronicles: A Winter's Spell (4.1 stars, Vendel Games, Jan. '15) Danse Macabre: Ominous Obsession (3.9 stars, Eipix, Sept. 16) Fear for Sale: Dusk Wanderer (3.6 stars, Elefun, Oct. '16) Dark Parables: Thief and the Tinderbox (3.4 stars, Eipix, Sept. '16)

Two mins into game and kicked out
crazy grandma65

Problems like this should not be an issue with new games.

Crash and burn
Dracyy

Update as promised original review below: The crashes dropped off further into the game however that didn't improve the story. Inventory is tiny and difficult to place. Whole game looks dated - previously released Poe games were better than this one. Two stars is generous- a rare low rating for me. I've played less than 5 minutes and it crashed and kicked me out and closed 3 times. Rarely do I have this issue with games. My iPad is up to date, fairly new with lots of available memory and no open apps in the background. I have filed a report with the developer by clicking on the tools cog in the main menu of the game (where you usually go to rate the game) and chose NO, give feedback. I encourage anyone else having these issues to do the same. In the meantime- play the free trial (wish I had) and if you find it tolerable great! If not wait for an update (version history main page of this description right by in app purchases bottom of pop up. Should they fix this issue I will update my review but to give an honest review I would need to be able to play the game which frankly I don't have the patience for what with the constant crashes and reopening.

Not bad

✨?✨?✨??No Photos, Please!??✨?✨?✨
Moonbeamdream

Greetings, Gamers: ? Yep, just like others have stated, the game kicked me out after taking the first photo. Geez, that creepy-fog-character is stronger than I thought. Needs fixing. Not buying. Until next time, fellow gamers May the Shutterbug stars light your way ✨?✨?✨☹️✨?✨?✨

Just...no
TamaraL2

Got about 10 minutes into the free trial then uninstalled. No crashes, just uninteresting characters, blah storyline, and gameplay that makes no sense.

Love the Dark Tales Series but....
Sweetonetoo

Got to the last chapter and couldn't finish. The HOP in the fishing shack has a bug in it. I couldn't get fish bones that get the fishing net. Really disappointed to get this far and can't finish. :(

Excellent for the mind...plenty of themed fun.
MagicLouJohnson

Love the macabre feel and it does do Edgar Allan Poe justice. I love playing without hints. Makes it seem as real to life as possible.
